Alright, so I cant be the only one who saw this and said "Why CCP, why?"
Why would CCP make a "expansion" of eve that directly effects the eve universe and have it unplayable by the gaming system (being PC) and make it "Play station only". I have been playing eve for over 6 years and have very much enjoyed CCP's product thus far... however. To make an expansion that cant be played by PC seems like a betrayal to your current playerbase.
Your playerbase will be forced to go out and buy playstation 3's specifically to go on Dust 514 and represent their corporations or alliences. (as odds are atleast 75% of Eve onlines player base does not own one. That means ontop of the price of the game they will need to put out the price of the playstation **just** for your game.
Clearly the lead developer says that he will be doing a limited release over 6 months to see how it effects eve online **however** All his quotes are "looking to expand the player base" and has almost no promotion of interests to the veteran players. I love it when developers shake the tree to find a new fruit. But from a monitary aspect they are asking a massive amount. I fear it will be very similar to when age of conan got released in the fact that they will dive bomb their playerbase within the first month by over 50% due to people who just cant play the game.
Idd like to see other peoples opinions on the matter and if you agreee with this post please say so. I think the only real way to show we care about eve is to show devs our opinions so they can addequitly gage what their doing.

The player base won't be forced to do anything as the game isn't intended for the same player base
Getting a PS3 is up to you to get, but Dust wasn't meant to be developed or marketed to PCs or the existing EVE player base.
So there isn't really any betrayal going on here as it wasn't meant for us. If EVE players were meant to play Dust too but they still made it a console exclusive THEN I'd feel a bit betrayed
tl;dr Just cause the game is connected to EVE doesn't mean it was ever intended to have EVE players play it, if they do that's their thing...

From being very negative to Dust I've moved to "don't care". As to why they do this - they think it'll create a unique combination of sandbox MMO with the FPS. As for why on consoles, they want to cash in on the console market. IMHO, Dust will live for 2 years max (and I'm being very optimistic).

This is all a big misunderstanding. We're making a new game, not an expansion, to maintain momentum as a serious gaming studio that produces its own technology rather than just being a one-trick pony. We're just crazy enough to want those two games to affect each other in a meaningful way. Otherwise we would probably not have bothered with showing you guys anything concerning DUST. As EVE players DUST would never have had any meaning for you without that connection, so why announce it so early?
As to hamsters: I trust the EVE community absolutely and unquestionably with conferring the uniqueness of EVE over to DUST players. I might not have been very invested in the FPSs I've played up to date.. but they never allowed me to show my friends an influence map of a persistent universe nor pointing to a location there saying: "I made that happen.". So, to me, it's mostly on us on making that connection as immersive as possible for both sides.
It wont be easy. But being insane ain't supposed to be easy.

I look forward to the day when CCP decides to use the subscription revenues from all the PS3 DUST players to massively invest in developing expansions for internet spaceship pilots playing EVE-online on their PC's.
After all, that would only be fair, wouldn't it!

You being an architect or builder and them being landscapers, yes you probably shouldn't care about doing their job or how they do it. You both work on the same land though.
So what's that tree to you?
You don't have the expertise with how to plant a tree just right, pay them moar ISKies to make them put it where you want.
Other wise buy a PS3 and you plant the damn tree, but in the mean time you can be content to designing and building the buildings that sit next to said tree.
If the guys that put the tree there are un-friendly types, then you have to fight the guys that hired them, you see?
Fighting will be mostly EVE v EVE and DUST v DUST with a little bit of crossing over

if it was on PC there would be less then 300,000 in sales. its a fact that pc shooters dont sell anymore. they want a NEW market. not a DEAD market. with all the PC fanboyism aside, Dust will most likely fail simply because its on playstation 3 only. the PS3 doesnt sell shooters.. its just a fact. almost all AAA exclusive shooters on PS3 sold less then 3 million copies, compared to xbox shooter exclusives, selling over 10 million.

Admit it, you don't even know just how many people will want to own a PS3 in order to get Dust 514 and you never will.
If you just released Dust for the PC AS WELL AS PS3 not only would it make more sense but also you wouldn't alienate the very player base that is now allowing you to do this!
STOP BEING STUBBORNLY STUPID!
Holy crap, I wish I knew the kind of money that Sony was giving you to behave this thick in the face of your players.

Oh wait! No, I won't be buying a new computer just to play EVE. Rather, I won't be resubbing AND I won't be playing DUST either.

I fully understand that its being considered as a "New Game" however my concern is moreso in regards to Dust having an effect on gameplay as a whole. Generally speaking i wouldnt feel confertable having any factors working "for" or "against" my corporations interests without our direct control.
I think the concept is fantastic however i believe it would be much more representative and transition into the community much better with PC compatability that allows it to addapt to the majority of the eve playerbase.
We love your content, we just want the ability to play it and control our assets to the fullest! :D

I feel alienated, too. CCP apparently doesn't understand that we like the EVE universe and would love to play an fps based in the EVE universe. Not caring if it connects to EVE Online or not. Putting on the PS3, I'll NEVER play it. And tbh, I think 300,000 sales of dust on the ps3 is optimistic..
And since when is fps on pc's dead? That's a pretty stupid statement. Can't wait for BF3! :D

KHAAAAAAN! KHAAAAAAN! Oh yes, it's totally because they sold out to Sony, and didn't have a demo back in 2009, or was it this years Fanfest that they showed off Dust, using a X-Box controller, which means that it was either on a 360 or a computer ...or might they have taken a Sixaxis/Dual Shock 3 and put it in a 360 controller shell? And that they now are PS3 exclusive with the game has nothing to do with Microsoft not wanting to have a cross platform game that connects to three platforms (or rather that they HAVE to connect to PSN, and we can't have that!).

Again, why do you want to be this ? 'Cuz we're insane !!1!!!' is kind of a cop out, you are pouring massive amounts of money, time and effort into something very risky in the assumption it will be a success. Looking at how your massive development effort over the last year has produced a room, a door and some turrets no one can differentiate I estimate the chance of DUST being anything but a disaster to be remote.
And with a fraction of the resources available to them Team Gridlock has worked miracles, while sudden huge fights on unreinforced nodes are still torture it's been proven to be possible to have 1000+ fights with little to no lag. Why not focus on where you are strongest ?

Tell that to Dice when battlefield bad company 2 sold over 2 million PC copies of the game within the first few weeks of it's release....The PC market for shooters is dead you say???....
The same also happened for the PC version of modern warfare, and with the hype building up for battlefield 3 with it's graphics engine even more enhanced than battlefield 2's, destructible environments that include 7 story high buildings coming down, full DX11 effects thru out the game and 64 player multiplayer mayhem(Bad Company 2 is 32 players max).
So here comes Dust with it's DX9 graphics since the PS3 can't do better, using the unreal 3 engine(hardly cutting edge these days), and supposedly with a much lower amount of players on each team compared to battlefield 3 on the multiplayer end of things, and no destructible environments at all, and CCP are still expecting people to be impressed because it has a connection with eve online?....I want what CCP is smoking, seriously...

The reason people don't buy PC shooters anymore is because they suck, if people made interesting shooters then they'd buy them, that goes for any other game on any other platform or console.
The end.

I'm pretty sure that if the game is not a complete failure, they will port it to PC after maybe 6 month to expend the player base. There would not be any good reason not to do it if the demand is there. So lets wait and see how it will play out.

sorry, i lied, bad company 2, sold about 1 million copies on PC in total, see here
and here
combining them, you get what? 900,000 sales... and that is battlefield, arguably the most successful PC shooter series of all time.... again, PC games in general are dead, just fact now remove MMO and RTS and PC games dont sell anymore, at least on par with xbox/ps3/wii sales

I do agree that eventually, FPS games get repetitive and boring unless mod tools are released to allow players to create their own mods and custom maps, but it's a given that it'll never happen with Dust since it's on the PS3 exclusively, so kinda hard to create custom maps using just a console for one, and 2, there's it's connection to eve to worry about and how the results of a dust battle are supposed to have effects in the eve universe.
So user created mods for dust aren't going to happen, and what keeps it from eventually getting boring when players are fighting for the same planet over and over again?....Absolutely nothing.

You guys are straying off topic however...
In regards to FPS on PC having less sales then console.
--PC FPS games are unregulated
-- PC FPS games get hacked
-----
Dust514 is a FPS MMORPG... in theory it should be maintained by GMs thus preventing the type of nonsence hacks you see frequintly on games like call of duty modern warfare 2.
This will also increase sales.

The thing to consider though is that the game looks so much better on the PC since pretty much any PC(not just the high end ones), can run circles on a PS3, wich was first released over 5 years ago...A friend of mine played the PS3 version of bad company 2 for months and got to a pretty high rank, until he upgraded to a new PC and got the game at a pretty large discount since it has been out for over a year now, and he built the PC for battlefield 3's release this october...
He was floored ho much better it looked on the pc and how the multiplayer matches featured up to 32 players rather than the max limit of 24 players on the PS3 version, and now here comes BF3 with 64 players, and dice already went on the record that BF3 is primarily built for the PC and as far as consoles go, they'll have to tone it down to make the game playable, so those plying it like that aren't getting the best possible experience, period.
