Both Crysis and EVE CQ at max settings use about 80% to 99% of my gpu. Crysis runs smooth at around 30-35fps(8xAA). CQ not so much, it hangs horribly whenever I rotate the camera.
CPU usage is even worse with CQ. Where crysis would rarely go above 60% total cpu usage, even when sprinting through a jungle fighting dozens of enemies. CQ jumps well past 80% when I walk around.
My specs: Phenom 720BE @ 3.5ghz 4gb DDR3 1333 @ 6-6-6-18-1 gigabyte 790FX NB @ 2.6ghz 64GB kingston SSD ATi 5850 (900core/1100mem)
I can only imagine how much it sucks trying to run CQ on older AMD hardware...
The good news is CQ is completely useless and has NO gameplay value. So turning it off isn't a big deal

Wasn't there supposed to be a blog about CQ optimization or something?

To be quite honest with you, EvE does not like ATi in general. I personally have no problems with the CQ dropping bellow 45 FPS (talking from the top of my head here). Try and update your drivers. It cant screw worse then you are at the moment. Please ensure your signature is within the allowed size of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24,000 bytes. Navigator |

I heard CPUs kickass at rendering graphics.

My drivers are up to date. Eve doesn't like ATi because CCP only tests on Nvidia/intel hardware. Hardly what I would call "Excellence".

àand that's part of the problem when it comes to running Incarna on AMD cards. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

I have nvidia card nowdays and still think that CQ is way too heavy and lacks options to make it lighter. You can not even lower the quality without nerfing the space graphics on same go.

They should made the CQ like counter strike, that is much easier and cost effective

Choosing to force a technology that is only available nvidea cards is like designing roads that will only work well with cars made by volkswagon.

hm.... maybe , go with me... if we had the old hanger, then we press a button on the right side, then; keep with me... u enter CQ.. best of both worlds, cant be that hard to program and everyone is happy, people with $3000 PC's can use CQ and us folks with 1 year old PC's can keep if off and keep our fan usage low

I use only lowly laptop, but still it's ridiculous that I can run crysis with no problem, but whenever I try to run CQ my whole system starts screaming and begging for mercy, like it's being burnt alive (coincidentally that's exactly what is happening to everything bellow my waist).

This is "Flawlessly Fail" policy that any gaming company can take.
you just don't do that.

So what OP is saying is that CCPs graphics engine for CQ is sub-par and of generally low quality?
Sounds like it is perfectly in keeping with everything else CCP is involved in.

Optimizations were due to come out last month. However, CCP chose to postpone that update, which as everyone knows means they've moved onto something completely different. ETA on revisiting optimizations, given CCP's past performance, 6 to 8 years.

Its the RT radiosity that slows it down compared to Crysis, I suppose.
The GFX engine still needs alot of work apparently but its definetly a higher technology than Crysis.

Whats really interesting is whats going to happen when/if it expands from just CQ. Imagine trying to render a large interior with 30-40 people running slowly walking around in station.

Somewhere in the back of my head a word just popped into my mind... oh right, I think it was "scalability".
