We want to get the ore before anyone else does (PvP if you will). I seriously don't have jetcans/GSC/whatever on my overview, or brackets on my "mining" tab. Only place I have that stuff is on my "loot" settings... but since I'm mining (not looting)... Half a belt missing sounds like it was probably a newer miner, who couldn't reach all that much... so plopped down where they could maximise their yields. Just happened to be by your cans, because that's why you put them there. Based on your age, I'm betting you're just about in a retriever (or have recently gotten into it). Your next move is to get into a player corporation, who can help you out (Orca bonuses, haul for you, whatever). Once you do that, and can mine with people, your viewpoint will most likely change ... They probably couldn't even contain themselves with laughter. What a waste. I think I stopped using them when I was still in a mining cruiser, as they just were not worth the waste of time. Take the risk of having your can flipped and just jetcan mine -- for the occasional loss you'll save huge amounts of time. A free container that can hold up to 27,000 m^3 vs paying for thirty containers that only hold three thousand or so a piece? I cannot even comprehend the pain of picking up the cargo from so many cans, not to mention going through the slow process of placing that many cans to begin with.

You lose more minerals on a consistent basis having to manage the GSCs (move to them, load each one, etc), than getting the occasional can of ore flipped.
Tau Cabalander Retirement Retreat	Posted - 2011.08.21 23:18:00 - [40] I had an urge to do some hisec mining yesterday, even though I didn't have my full mining fleet available. Still, I mined over 87 million with what I had, completely stripping a belt in the process. Orca + Hulk (normally 2 but this time just one) + Bustard Ya, I could have made more doing missions, but I wasn't in the mood for that.
