Despite my best efforts, EVE is unplayable. Sometimes, I get the socket closed bug on login, but the big issue I have is that my client frequently returns to the login screen, without any kind of error. I can immediately log back in, and nothing else seems effected. Just eve.
I've done antivirus scans, anti-spyware scans, defrag, cleanup, switching antivirus software, taking down my firewall, and I even re-installed EVE.
I still keep getting dropped. Any suggestions? This has been going on for 2 days now, and I'm gonna unsub if I can't play. <a href="https://eve-search.com/externalLink.asp?l=http%3A%2F%2Feve%2Ebattleclinic%2Ecom%2Fkillboard%2Fcombat%5Frecord%2Ephp%3Ftype%3Dplayer%26name%3DTyrolen"><img src="http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/signature.php/string,Tyrolen/tpl,minmatar/signature.png"></a> |

I am pretty sure this will get moved to another section but...
What are your PC specs? Did you update drivers? Video drivers especially but sound and even motherboard drivers could be an issue.
Try reducing your video settings down to the absolute minimum and start turning them up bit by bit until you have a problem. That would shed some light as well. NO BOOBIES LEFT BEHIND! |

Audio and motherboard drivers are up to date. My video drivers aren't, though. I'll post again if the problem persists after I update. <a href="https://eve-search.com/externalLink.asp?l=http%3A%2F%2Feve%2Ebattleclinic%2Ecom%2Fkillboard%2Fcombat%5Frecord%2Ephp%3Ftype%3Dplayer%26name%3DTyrolen"><img src="http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/signature.php/string,Tyrolen/tpl,minmatar/signature.png"></a> |

Depending how badly you want to play EvE, you should consider a fresh install of windows. If it still happens after that, it's a hardware error.
edit: so, thinking about it, for a while there I had sort of similar issues but it only happened when I was downloading torrents (as my ISP do packet shaping to screw with torrent-laden traffic) and was due to my connection dropping out for a second or two. Seems like a streth but I thought I'd throw it out there. .

Edited by: Magnus Veyr on 15/08/2011 18:43:09 Could be a connection or packet loss issue. Might be on your end with router issues or perhaps you're on wireless. Might be a routing problem your ISP has. Try this, pick a destination near London and see what happens.

Ha! You should be so lucky. At least you might get support from CCP about this issue unlike me who having the temerity to run EVE under Linux gets nothing. When the connection is dropped for me, as it does with montonous regularity, I often get bumped back to the EULA, that means losing all my settings. Luckily this has happened so often that it takes a couple of minutes to get everything back in shape. It does sometimes switch CQ on though and that is a real pain to kill.

Me too! Eve is totally unplayable, but I'll be damned if I am going to uninstall OS2 Warp.

After some investigation it turned out to be comcast. I would not doubt it's their traffic shaping policies too, it ONLY happens when I play online anything, everything else runs just fine with no packet loss. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

Edited by: Chuckles Beeshaw on 15/08/2011 23:17:39 are you running anything like peerblock? are you on wireless? frequent disconnects aren't new to wireless gaming :P
and also for the firewall, did you completely disable and stop the service? whenever i used to disable it via the settings, it would re-enable itself and block **** unless i had manually ended the firewall/sharing service.
if that doesnt help and if you're on a router, i'd try plugging the modem directly into your pc. if you dont get disconnected then, you'll know it's your router giving you the problems.
you could also go into command prompt and type 'netstat' and make sure no other programs are using the same port which eve needs.

Well that's good. So I'm assuming you don't live in a major urban area (and no suburbs don't count). We've been having serious storm problems here up until the beginning of this month, that and Comcast is also notorious for it's crappy traffic shaping policies in large metropolitan areas. The combination of the two has seriously messed up my ability to maintain a stable connection to anything other than surfing. I'm looking at 20-30% packet loss at peak hours pretty regularly lately, off hours I don't have a much trouble, if any. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

I ran the ping test. Came back as 126ms with 0 packet loss. I disabled the firewall completely, for sure. Nothing else is using the same port EVE uses. My temperatures are normal. Everything else runs fine, games included.
I'm hesitant to say its my windows install or my hardware.

This MIGHT be your problem it has been around for awhile.
The THEORY goes.
EVE doesn't have any form of keep alive packets per say. So what is happening is that your carrier is seeing empty connections and in an attempt to clear them up they are breaking them. This causes you a disconnect.
The fix or work around to prevent your carrier from doing this is; Open a busy chat channel in EVE. Personally I use the help channel and leave it behind another if you don't want to watch it. This basically keeps traffic flowing and your carrier should leave you alone believing the connection is active.
Hopefully this works for you.

Check your fans. All of them.
If they are dirty, blocked, or not spinning, a PC can act really strange when it runs something as straining as EVE.

Fans are fine. I regularly clear the dust from the components. I've been running two characters simultaneously for about 6 months now, high graphics, without a hitch. This continues even after lowering my video settings dramatically.

It could be a hardware issue with your ISP. I had a similar issue that plagued me for over a month. It turned out that lighting/power surge had only partially severed my phone line at the box outside and I would occasionally have issues similar to yours. So, think outside the box... or house. Good luck.

Well, I called the ISP, and the best they could say was that if there were some kind of issue locally such as physical damage as you suggest, it would effect more than just EVE, and in so many words told me to go fly a kite.

i advice you to check your internet connection more accurately. Start -> run command -> cmd.exe -> ping -t google.com You will see that sometime ping looses packet. Eve heavily depends on channel so you will see a problem.
I got the same problem few weeks ago. It was really bad for me because i planned to farm a couple of 10/01 escalations and decided to sell bookmarks instead. And i found that my PC conflicted with notebook for WiFi. Put down notebook and got internet stable. Have no ideas what was wrong that time.

If you've been able to run eve for 6 months, and this just started happening recently, why would you blame CCP. Unless this started right after a patch or something then the problem is on your end don't you think??
