read the help file... it cannot load the driver if you don't do what it says in the help file... and once it is installed it works wonders.

Protowall is an IP blocker that is a NDIS driver. It sits as a low fat service on your NIC and filters IPs. I still get tons of traffic that my Hardware firewall, a Smoothwall Linux Box, do not block.
If you have ever seen IP blockers that work in conjunction w/ Kazaa lite then you should understand the functionality of Protowall. Protowall takes it a step further and is made by the DEVS of Peerguardian.
For a great Firewall, try Smoothwall : www.smoothwall.org
This is a linux distro that installs on a seperate dual nic PC. Good if you have a old Pentium 233 + sitting around. I personally use a Dell Optiplex Gx1 350mhz w/ 256mb ram, 6gig HD, CD, built in 3com NIC, and a Netgear 10/100. -------------------- The Nest

In Black List Manager, check the IP your talking about and remove it from the list, convert the new list and use that. It takes a bit to get everything working smooth because some good sites share bad IPs that MAY or MAY NOT ever spam you.
Auzures IPs are blocked by my protowall, not by much, but during the blocking I see that I get spammed by viruses, BOGONs, and trogans, more than I do when its off. Welcome to the RIAA setting up PCs just to ruin your DLs. -------------------- The Nest

I've been thinking of doing this for some time. I've got an old PII 450 that should do the job. I'm wondering if it's possible to dual boot the the PII with SW on one HD and another OS on a second HD, that way I can still use it for back ups and messing around and then boot up SW when I need to be online.

I wouldn't advise it. Any modding ( lilo/grub/p*magic ) done to your smoothie will result in you having to go through that many more steps when you want to upgrade it or if there is a hardware failure.
Smoothwall is by far the best linux firewall distro I have tried. I wish there was a similar NetBSD based system but beggars can't be choosers. -------------------- The Nest

As long as SW has it's own drive (lets call it call it the secondary), then dual booting with p'magic from the primary HD should work in theory.

Just remember smoothwall uses its own boot manager and its not exactly a stock version, so any modifications used to get it to boot as a secondary drive will result in changes. changes = restoring SM longer and maintaining P*Majic to be nice and automated w/ lilo means more setting up. SM can run on a Pentium 133 w/ 64mb ram and 2 realtek nics, and can run headless and inputless - what a 30$ junk system? Don't bother wasting time on a dually SM. If a hardware failure occurs the cheapest and fastest thing to do is grab another elcheapo pc and use have a backup of SM settings on floppy to restore from. -------------------- The Nest
