Using the Infinity Universe engine. I wonder how this could be adapted (purchased) for use in EVE.

Hey neat another Infinity thread.
The Infinity engine won't work for Eve. It would require Eve to be completely recoded to incorporate it. Since Eve is based off of a point to point flight system, where as with the Infinity would require more of a flight sim control. So no the infinity engine would not work at all with the current eve system.
Not only that the Infinity engine isn't even complete yet and is still being developed and has been for years.

Infinity is vaporware. Too bad, really.

From what I understand, it's basically just one guy, and what he's done is amazing, but he's doing it in his spare time, and unless he gets huge funding and a lot of good paid people working with him, it's never going to happen.
Also, the spaceship designs are fundamentally ho-hum, he'd need to get some proper artists at work too. Also, the game would have to have some deeper conceptual basis, not just cookie-cutter s-f. He'd need to get some writers too. One of EVE's enduring virtues is its background lore and the basic universe - it's original in concept, which makes it attractive. *****

It is not a vaporware project, but it is goung on really slow because of it's freeware nature.
Anyway... Eve is Eve and Infinity is Infinity...

It's a really bad idea given ships are made of tritanium.
TRITANIUM The main building block in space structures. A very hard, yet bendable metal. Cannot be used in human habitats due to its instability at atmospheric temperatures. Very common throughout the world.
Of course, this leads one to ask:
* Atmospheric temperatures? Does this mean you shouldn't leave a space heater running next to a ship? Or warp to a star?
* If it's "common throughout the world," why hasn't the world suffered "instability?"
* If you can't use trit in habitats, but ships are made from trit and can house hundreds of crew members in a closed environment (aka a habitat,) why don't ships suffer from "instability?"
* Does no one at CCP "fact" check Eve's fiction?

According to Infinity's wikipedia article, the game universe is supposed to consist of 200 billion star systems. Sounds like the developer has grand ideas but no sense of achievable design.

Dude, control scheme has nothing to do with "compatibility." The real sticker is that it's probably in an entirely different language, with an entirely different API. Not to mention the whole vaporware thing...I guess my point is that it's a graphics engine with infinite SLOD capabilities; the controls could be anything.

The systems you transit/interact with (and near surroundings) are generated procedurally, apparently, so do-able, if I'm understanding the concept correctly.
