Not really anything new, but the fact that he got to see the cross-game contracts system in action is cool.

Even with all the rage and pessimism on these forums, I sincerely believe the community at large REALLY wants this to work. Good to hear it is actually taking shape. --------------------------------------------------

I'm still skeptic. Don't get me wrong if it works it'll be awesome. But will it? sure when devs are basically staging the whole scene it looks very nice but for this to truly work you need co-operation from both EVE and Dust players. If one community decides to **** it up (most likely EVE community) it can become a disaster.
On top of that it is still uncertain why EVE dwellers would want to hire dusters to conquer planets. Current PI mechanics and profitability doesn't seem to be worth it. i mean would conquering one of the many planets out there really be worth it?
Still too many "???" left for me to be convinced. But , if it works as intended i'll be spending a lot more time on my PS3.

That's true. I think that in the long run, the game would work better on PC. I'm sure at some point CCP will probably bring it over, but not for the initial launch.

Well, when Eve first came out, players got irate about some griefers taking control over a critical supply route. From there, players learned that by meeting the enemy with equal or greater force one can make Eve a better place. Perhaps the same can apply to Dust should some Dust/Eve players decide to act like ****s to each other.

Well i would like it to be on pc cause i don't own a console. but it looks like it should work out alright. Be intresting to see why we should give a dam about planets. i mean atm it's not even worth doing pi.
Also my dread should take out half a map :)

Won't happen. No one would hire the Console dusters, playing a shooter with mouse and keyboard is so much more practical and easy that PC dusters would be much better than the console ones, severely disadvantaging the console dusters.

I'm curious about the merc contract system.
Can I set a minimum rating by ELO or similar ranking system of the corp? Or of individual unaffiliated players? Or both? Minimum corp size? Can I contract weapons over to help them, or give them an operating budget for the mission?

Top reason for dust coming into console is illegal downloading.
It's much harder to get illegal versions of games to work in console enviroment. This means more $$$ from the product. PC gaming is bad business, unless you create a MMO game where players have to pay subscription fee.
You can plug in mouse and kb into consoles nowadays so it doesn't matter. Of course those who don't have a console, would have to buy one in order to play. But I think majority of gamers do have both, PC/MAC and console.
Those screenshots and consept art looks just awesome.

This is untrue. Most likely it will be account based. So even if you where able to illegally DL you couldn't actually play it.
The most probable reason for it not going to PC is because its easier to hack PC FPSs. Which when your talking about a MT based FPS, having a whole bunch of aimbots and wall hackers is bad for business.

Sorry to burst both of your bubbles, but the main reason that it's going to be on consoles is because CCP wants to try their hand at a different market. Plain and simple. They have said as much many, many, many times, and it always makes me sad when people jump on one of the other bandwagons.
And yes, it will be account based, just like EVE is. But there will be no subscription fee, only an upfront one which at this stage looks to be about $20 (all of which goes back into credit for microtransacitons). The main point of income is going to be microtransactions. -------------------------------- Fleet Admiral, Fleet Coordination Coalition |

While they have said it yes it doesn't mean that was there initial intent. They can still diverge into another player(FPS and Console) base while still making a PC version. Considering the Sony exclusive deal wasn't reached till very late in the development process means they where looking into other venues such as Xbox and possibly PC. Unless CCP made Dust knowing initially that it was going to be PS exclusive, then it would have been suicide for them to not even consider making a PC version in the beginning.

It was their initial intent. It was actually going to be an Xbox 360 and PS3 cross-platform game. Unfortunately, Microsoft wasn't going to play ball and let them do so (among a whole pile of other restrictions), so they decided to just go PS3 exclusive. -------------------------------- Fleet Admiral, Fleet Coordination Coalition |

Maybe you haven't heard, but DUST will be free to play and paid by microtransactions (hopefully they will be really MICROtransactions and not MACROtransactions like in the NeX Store).
But what I wonder ... if DUST would be a great success with many hundreds of thousands players playing it ... will be EVE big enough to support all those players? I mean, you can hire only so many mercs to capture a planet for you.
Also: Why should anyone want to capture a planet at all? At the moment the planets are pretty worthless, no one really cares about them. So ... what will change with the planets and with PI? When will these changes come? If DUST is released next summer, the changes must be already implemented into EVE. This means latest the spring/summer expansion, but that is a really tight schedule and easy to mess up things on such a schedule. Or will PI changes come already in this winter expansion? Then we should hear something about it already.
Please CCP, involve the playerbase more with those changes. Ask for their ideas and input. This can be a really big game changer and it would be great if you would get things right and have a huge success in the first attempt!

From what the devs have said, PI is going to get more shineys. Not to mention that DUST players will not be reliant on EVE players to create conflict: they can decide to load up a war barge, head to some planet and kick what ever is on there off and take it for themselves.
That and there are pretty big hints they want to tie it into 0.0 sov down the line. -------------------------------- Fleet Admiral, Fleet Coordination Coalition |

Lol where did you get that assumption? From all my friends, there is only one console owner, and mind me, ther's quite a lot of people gaming a lot on the pc in that crowd.
Maybe in the US it's different, but in Europe, not many people can actually afford a pure-gaming platform. Not to mention a TV big enough to actually play a ps with fun.
I'd love to try out dust, but since it's pure console, no hcance.

The only new and noteworthy element in that blog is that CCP is setting a cap of 32 avatars in one room. I wonder if that cap will translate across other multi-player environments in this brave new world that CCP is setting up? How will that work in major market hubs?
Also, EVE Gate? The system that CCP has set out to rot with the refuse and which can't even properly render special characters such as the ampersand or quotations?

You forgot to mention that the target audience of this mediocre FPS are people that bought the console to avoid online fees and don't hold credit cards. Really not the market I would go after for a transaction based game.......then again most people working for CCP have never been particularly thoughtful or smart.
