Question: What skills are needed and trained to what level to be properly able (and not gimped) to anchor a POS that's meant to be used by a handful of people (5ish not more) for different purposes (stocking PI, logistics, reshipping, safe heaven etc).
I do not know what size of the POS would be suitable for this (what are the benefits of small med large) considering I want to anchor it in a really really remote 0.0 area that does not see much traffic and it would be my first thing of sorts.
So most important I'd like to know what are the skill requirements and how many days of training would they roughly take to take advantage of a properly set up POS.
Thank you in advance m8's!

You'll get nothing but troll posts from the Eve O community. Most of them are morons. There's a few bright bulbs in the box, but not many.

Anywhere I could research this then? Or maybe some rare non-troll could actually explain..

I never got into POS stuff so I can't help you there, sorry. Try Google maybe?

1st, I'm pretty sure anchoring III will suffice, which is a little less than a day IIRC. You can get POS gunning skills, but you only need anchoring to set up the POS. Also, go large POS, and put as many guns on it as possible.

It depends on what kind of POS. IE what you really want to do with it. In general in 0.0 you want a large POS so you can put hardeners and guns on it. Don't bother with missiles. You don't have to online all the defense. The tower you choose depends on what you want to do out of it. As for skills all you should need is anchoring I. How ever I would train it to III because some POS mods require it to anchor them. Feel free to contact me in game if you have more questions.

POS's has grid and CPU just like a ship. The bigger the POS and depending on race/faction the more grid/CPU you have available. Also each race has it's own racial damage resists.
You best option is to do a show info on each tower/module you intend to use and go from there like the rest of us.

Edited by: Cerberine Saken on 23/08/2011 01:10:14 If it's in a quiet area, then you just need Anchoring I and the appropriate corporate roles to anchor a POS - there's about four different roles you need. Tower size only affects how many modules you can online around it, and how much fuel it consumes: smaller towers use less fuel, but also can't carry as many guns/silos/hangars/what have you. For a low-traffic area, I'd recommend a small tower, and just put in a corporate hangar and ship maintenance array and then load it up with guns and ECM.

As others have mentioned, you can train Anchoring III within a day, and that is enough to properly set up a POS. With a maximum of 5 people, manning your POS guns is important, but not as useful as it would be in a large corporation. With a small number of people like you propose, it will be difficult to guarantee that there will be a POS gunner online 23.5/7 to man the guns.
However, training Starbase Defense Management (requires Anchoring V) is a very good investment if you plan on using POSes. ----------

The skill requirements to anchor a POS and all POS modules is minimal, as someone mentioned it's something like Anchoring 3. The hard part is finding the right POS and setup for your needs.
Since the POS is in null sec, you would definitely want to set up a deathstar otherwise you're just asking to be attacked, regardless of infrequent traffic.

Thank you for all the replies but what do you mean by the above quote? Does it matter what tower it is if I want it to use it for mining logistics or if I were to want to use it for PI/storage area?
Also I do admit I know little about what you can use POS's for, I just know that I am going to need one soon for just sone of its meant roles. I would really much like to know what the rest of you use you POSs for.
Also last thing: what's the difference between normal towers and faction towers and why or why not would I want/not want one?

What I meant was each tower has differant CPU/Power Grid. For example Caldari Towers are better for industry because they have more CPU. However their bonus is for missiles which are mostly useless.

By faction I assume you mean Dread etc. Faction towers are upgraded towers. They have more CPU/Power and use less fuel typicaly. However they are expense and make really great Kill Mails. So you must decide what risk/benefit works for you.

So let me get this straight? Are you making me an idiot because of the font or because of what you quoted? Or is it both?
And way to go dude. You'll go far in life with this amount of prejudice. I don't need to troll you because justice will be done when you will end up having to work on a typewriter, mr. future janitor/neo-writer. And remember not to be mad when that time comes!

A few guns, a warp disruptor or two, and a couple webs are never a waste of time. They'll keep most random non-cloaky idiots from warping straight to the tower.

3 skills are needed for pos setup
1: anchoring lvl 3 (to setup the actual pos lvl 1) (some pos mods need lvl 3) 2: knowledge of eve time (setting it up on low numbers on server) 3: timemachine knowledge (going back in time to the early 70's to deal with the pos interface)

This is CCP's new target consumer, both the OP (who might be forgiven if he/she is a first time mmo player) and the players that replied, who failed to point out that the information is already out there only a few clicks away. Teach someone to fish instead of handing them a fish is my motto. Right here in these forums are in depth guides to help with pos choice, pos placement and modules. My suggestion is to research your needs among the guides - many forum posters will deliberately mislead you or unknowingly give you bad info. But i wouldn't value my own opinion to much, i biomassed my two toons running a highsec research pos and only have a forum troll now.

Full guide (available in pdf too) can be found on this site: http://eve-guides.com/poss/index.php
Note: DO NOT buy guides advertised on that site. If you still need some additional info after browsing the site for a while, take a look at http://www.isktheguide.com/.
short answer: - Anchoring on level 3 will be enough for anchoring structures - Starbase Defense Management on level 4 (requires Anchoring 5) is advised for defences... It will allow you to take control of the POS guns if it gets attacked |
