Confusio Universalis Ravagicus Extremous	Posted - 2011.08.23 01:31:00 - [1] I post in the crime and punishment section, saying how I got scammed by a corp, and im trolled for being the victim?? I head to jita and theres about 1000 people+ trying to scam each other. Is this the game that CCP wants? full of bots, scammers, greifers, and trolls? Ive been around here since 2004, eve may have more people since then but the quality of the community has gone way down hill. It really makes me think sometimes, why am I still here?

If you have been playing for 7 years, you should know a scam when you see one. Griefing is only griefing if it is illegal due to some game rule or a breach of the EULA. Here in EVE it is a way to make income. I believe it is called "pirating". :b If you find a bot, report it. They do get banned. Regularly. And finally, since all of the above is currently legal in this game, expect to get scoffed at when you complain that someone is doing what the developers designed the game to let you do. -Treya-

Thornat	Posted - 2011.08.23 06:26:00 - [44] Scamming is a problem, but not because of the scamming but because their is no mechanical way to seek retribution. Most of these guys hide in newbie corps, never leave the station and use throw away alts for their scams. That makes them easy to reckognize and avoid (hint) BUT I dislike every aspect of Eve mechanics that allows someone to do something in the game to another player and their being no mechanical counter to get retribution. Which is why I have always felt that it should be one character, one account. That at the very least would force players who do scam to build up bad reputations and at least offer a possibility that at some point they will join a player corp and you can war dec and get some payback. As it stands however right now their is no way to get even with scammers and the only counter you have to it is to be vigilant and not become a victim. As a PvP, competative game, I think this is very poorly designed. You should ALWAYS be able to get payback on someone. Ways to solve this problems. 1. Eliminate the possibility to create alt characters (one character, one account). 2. Only allow contracts for characters in player corporations. 3. Eliminate local chat spamming by limiting how often or how much you can spam only allowing X amount of posts per X amount of time for example. 4. Force all players over 6 months out of the newbie corps.

It also damages trust and leaves a lasting mental scar, which makes you feel bad. In some cases it results in people feeling depressed and quitting the game. For some people Eve is one of the few sources of joy and friendship in the life and it is distressing to them to be used and abused, particularly if the individual is just trying to help and make friends. The ramifications can be immense as entire networks of friends can fall apart, for example, in an alliance or corporation which gets taken apart by scammers and griefers.
