It is a matter of trial and error , atleast it was with me , i can't remember how many time i tore down my installations and restarted , there many pi guides and charts you can use and they do help, but in the end i do make a nice profit of pi making all pos fuels , granted on 2 accounts and one of them with max pi skills and even after making the fuel for my own pos i still have a large profit on my excess production , but it is matter of trial and error and doing some research on the topic , So start reading all those guides and have a look at the markets to see what is your best options and don't be afraid to scrap your installation and start over , even the little production you had will be more than enough to pay for your new installation ________________________________________ Minmatar are like jedi knights, we use ductape as our force, it has a darkside and a sticky side

Well I took the plunge and set up to make superconductors. I found a Storm planet that looked like it might have enough suspended plasma to sustain 5 basic processors with one ECU feeding them on a 24 hours cycle. It does but just barely however I think this has a lot to do with my non-existent scanning skills. I set an identical setup on another nearby planet to make water.
If I haven't totally screwed up the math I should make about 2.5 mil a day with a three planet setup. Haven't built my P1 > P2 factories yet but I figure there's no hurry since I need to build up some P1 before they can do anything. Just wanted to say thanks to all for all the help. I know I ask a TON of questions. I think maybe I can fiddle with this and not break the bank now even if all I wind up doing is breaking even.

Good luck Koujo. You can also drop me a message in game if you need help or have more questions. I'm not on this toon a lot during the day, but if you send me a mail I'll respond to it when I'm on next :)

Then, I will either pick up the P0, and import it to a second (factory) planet,
no no no no no... Speadsheets! never import / export p0 - the costs are massive, process p0 to p1 on your mining planet and then export P1 to a factory planet

Originally by: Koujo Arji My skills are still pretty low but working on them. I didn't have much luck in the 0.5 systems but I have found a couple of higher sec systems with planets with around 50% Aquenous Liquids and another one jump away with 45% ish Micro Organisms. I was thinking maybe I could produce some test cultures. Maybe not awesome isk but profitable?
Depends. Is there a market for Test Cultures?
I'm beginning to think you should Just do itÖ and see what happens. At some point one has to leave the spreadsheets behind, as they only take you so far.
In fact, there is. It's what I produced with my "Just-do-it" PI installation; A system with a trading hub has decent prices on those and it's only a few jumps away.
A single highsec planet producing P2 goods by itself. Needless to say it's an efficiency Nightmare, but it helped me understand the mechanics. Now I just gotta keep it running for a bit, while I learn the necessary skills to expand :3

Seconded.
P0 to P1 processing should always be done on the extraction planet, even if you intend to export. The savings in import/export fees and volume are both huge enough to make it worth while.
If you do P3 and P4 processing, you will also find that you will want to do as much processing on the same planet as possible (typically starting with at least P2) to reduce import/export fees.

You should take the time to train for the max # of planets and Command Center Upgrades. You'll see. It'll become what you're hoping PI will become for you.
I am exclusively in High Sec and make alot of money in PI. Try to colonize one solar system only. When you have 6 planets all in a row so to speak, you just zip from one to the other to the other. Though, if you need a more rare planet (like Plasma, Lava or Oceanic) try to set up in a neighboring system.
Make sure you have a nice sized hauler for fewer trips obviously.
You won't make money with just the RAW MATERIALS, and the PROCESSED MATERIALS aren't much better in terms of straight up profit.
I think if you tried REFINED COMMODITIES (like TEST CULTURES or COOLANT) you might get into a good rhythm and generate extra income. And, if you have a big enough hauler, 10 jumps to cash out isn't bad, especially if it means colonizing a solar system off the beaten track. Just wait until you have a full load.
I got into PI for the same reason you're thinking about... the problem for me is, now its all I do. I like the challenge of logistics and the pay out for ADVANCED COMMODITIES.
Let me know what Region you're in if you'd like some specific advice...
