I know that the cargo bay can be seen on a scan, and the loot drops from there. I know that the corporate bay can't be seen on the scan, and the cargo is lost when ganked. But what about the ship bay? Can that be scanned? Do the ships drop or get vaporized?

The ships go boom; and last I noticed, not scanned.

Don't know what goes boom or drops (I'm assuming only the cargohold drops).

However, I did test what could be scanned after the recent changes. It's cargohold only. Ship Maintenance, Corporate Hangar, and Ore Bay are all invisible to scanners.

And if you make courier contracts for stuff you want to put into cargo hold, then the scanner cannot see what you have either

Funny, I do that with my freighter, had mates scan me and all they see is the contract but not whats in it. Maybe you have some secret?

Edit add: Need to put items in a container first, then make courier contract. Yes you can scan and see inside courier contract but if otems are in a container inside the contract then you will not be able to see in the container itself. Sorry for the mis-direction

Only the common cargo hold can be scanned and drops. All the specialized fuel, ship, ore, corp, etc. bays are unscannable and never drop.

Exception: NPC customs can see illegal items in any cargo area.

also a nice point to remember....while not scannable, they are accessible to corpies. Not all ganks require guns. If not in your own "1 man", any random corpie can walk up and take from your holds. You can't block this afaik....about the only thing you can turn off is refitting iirc.

It's actually the container providing protection, not the contract + container. Cargo scanners can't see inside cans. Hence why I carry the biggest one I can fit in my exploration ship so I can autopilot my shinies in peace.

Corporate hangar can only be used by corp mates in fleet with you; how ever when orca is "unpiloted" corp hangar is free to use for corp mates.
Other hangars are only accessible for the pilot her self.

Corp hangars also require same roles as regular corp hangars.

Scanners can see inside cans just fine. In fact, the scanner ignores cans and just lists the content ù the can itself makes zero difference. Originally by: Johnny Wander It's actually the container providing protection, not the contract + container. Cargo scanners can't see inside cans.

The trick is that it only does this one ôlayerö deep. If you fit a container within a container, it bypasses the first layer as usual, and then lists the container within it. The problem is that you can't put normal cans into normal cans, and the use of contract wrappers is the only way to get around this limitation.

But the pilot can move stuff from other hangers to the corp hanger right? I'm planning to move an alt with an Orca into c3's with my main in a tengu. CAn I use the orca for probing too?

Actually the SMA is always accessable for any corp member just like your fitting services, and becomes available to fleet members when in fleet with "allow fleet member usage" set.

The pilot can move stuff from cargo to the ore hold or the corp hangar, but only un-packaged ships go in the maintenance bay.

To access a corp hangar in the Orca (or any other ship which has one), you still need the respective corp roles to see and take from any hangar division. Even if you are the ship's pilot.

The pilot can always access his own ship while in space, even if he wouldn't normally have permission to when docked.
