Had my laptop melt recently trying to run 3x clients...
I'm interested in spending around 1-2k USD on a new machine.
In the recommended system requirements, they recommend a dual core processor. Would there be no benefit to getting a quad core?

I would look at what Dell can offer you. They might not be the cheapest but maybee they have so kind of discount offer.
General Tipps: Take as many Cores u can get, take as much RAM u can get and especially make sure u get a *real* graphics card, not some kind of On-Board Stuff.
But tbh. your budget is a bit low for a real high end laptop. You could build a perfect gaming rig if u buy a tower and build the computer by your own.

in terms of value for money, check out these parts on Newegg or something similar
Intel Core i5 2500 6gb of 1600mhz DDR3 RAM I would normally recommend an ATI card, but knowing CCPs tendancy for shenanigans, look at getting an Nvidia GTX560 A decent (read:not overly cheap) 800w PSU
and that should do it

i dont think they fall within your budget anyway, but dont buy one. buy the parts individually, take your time, and put it together yourself

Judging by Incarna, I'd suggest something like this. It may be a little above your price range, but it should run the CQ.

Edited by: Jenshae Chiroptera on 07/09/2011 03:48:05 When you get your PC, make sure to assign your clients the correct screens in drivers and setting, then have a version of EVE on a different partition and drive. Thus for you, I recommend 3x small drives than 1x large drive
Oh and some mother boards have on board cards that are good enough to run EVE so with the right settings and such you can run EVE from your card and your motherboard, supporting three screens Greetings and salutations all who reside here. May your flames be warm and your trolls tasty. |

Edited by: Taran Summers on 07/09/2011 04:52:42 I use the nvidia 545's for each additional monitor past my main. Assign one client to each one, even runs the stupid CQ at high settings (card runs at 96% though).
Intel I7-770 ($559) <- Hex Core, Yum 24 GB Ram - Corsair Vengeance ($160) MSI Big Bang XPower Motherboard ($290) Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1k Power Supply ($188) Corsair H80 Cooling System ($90) Generic Case ($100) Caviar Black HDD ($130) Nvidia 570 ($320) <- Runs two clients in the CQ at full rez and settings.
That's 1837. |

edit.... Dang - was not wanting to post again on these forums .... |

If you want a desk top either build it yourself or just buy a Dell with a lot of RAM that you can upgrade the vid card in.

I just bought a new PC of ebay, trusted seller who builds PCs.
ASrock mobo, AMD phenom 2 X2 840 quad core cpu, 16gig ram (1333mhz ddr3), 1 tb HD, crappy on board gfx but ive thrown my old GeForce 430 in it (plus usual stuff like dvdr, snazzy box with lights blah blah blah)no OS, but windows 7 home premium will set you back maybe ú70 at the moment.
The whole rig cost me ú325 UK , no idea what that equates to in $US but surely not much difference these days. Obviously the GFX and OS isnt included in that but you can pick that card up for ú40 and teh OS for ú70
I will update to a higher spec GFX after Xmas most likely. This rig runs everything on max flawelessly, anyone who says you need a top price monster to run eve is lying. Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

If you're multi clienting might wanna spring for another monitor and VGA that can run dual monitors smoothly. Double check power needs of card. (No you dont need to 2 cards) and you wont need 1000w PSU unless you got 2 cards.

re: the PSU if you are possibly considering using one graphics card now and two at a later date make sure it has enough power connectors to run them.

Sorry, somebody may have mentioned this but I feel like I just need to remind people here, that for most shop and home builds greater than 16GB of RAM is wasted, unless you get the Windows 7 Professional edition, home premium, and basic are RAM capped at 16 and 8 respectively.

You're absolutely right, I've been running Ultimate for so long I didn't even think about that. |
