I've recently done the mission "Pirate Invasion" against angels and this mission's got 3 battleships that use target painters against the player (2 saints and a nephilim).
Can my signature radius be increased three times (i.e. there's situations where all three ships can target-paint me at once and it stacks) or is only one of the three painters active at a time ?

The effect of multiple Target Painters (TPs) is cumulative, but they are also subject to stacking penalties.
I think (subject to correction from the more knowledgeable) this means that: 1.Three TPs onto you from three different enemy ships results in a cumulative expansion in your signature radius. I'm not sure whether that calculates out at 2.2 x your starter radius or 1.9 x (e.g. 1.00 X 1.30 X 1.30 x 1.30 = 2.2 v. 1.00 + 3 x (1.00 x 1.30) = 1.9); 2.Three TPs onto you from a single other ship results in a cumulative effect but is also subject to stacking penalties. This means that your sig radius will be increased by less than 2.2 / 1.9.

Edited by: Reginald Ruettelplatt on 09/09/2011 02:56:15 I looked up the values for the three ships and i've got a vague suspicion that it's multiplicative because multiplying the three ships' values in the mission would result in exactly 2 (kinda like the devs said "let's double signature radius in this mission by 2 in the worst case"). The reason i'm asking is because i had aggro in the mission from alot of angel battleships and for a long time had no problems with my tank, but suddenly after i already reduced them to roughly half their number my tank suddenly dropped. Me getting target-painted multiple times (when their numbers have benn down already) is probably the explaination then.
Thanks for the reply, Substantia

also they may have managed to get close enough to lay down their damage upon you.
Angel NPCs are, if nothing else, fast ... and those big 'machariel' NPCs have no trouble chasing you down if you're flying anything big enough to casuse them serious grief ('cept mebbe a prop modded T3).
The "they got close enuff" issue is particularly noticeable when you take on some of the tougher amarr lvl4s ... all of a sudden your seemingly impenetrable shields start melting.

Also, Saints toss out a lot of thermal so get them first...

I think it must have been the target painting issue, my range was 15-17k to the big blob of "lesser" angels (i always kept 15k distance to the nearest of the blob), but i noticed after having checked their optimal range that i would have gotten alot less at 20k. Thanks for the input though everyone.

I believe you can see your current, actual sig radius on the fitting screen, and that includes effects like MWDs and TPs.
