Well its been awhile since i flew the beast into PVP and am wondering what the current fleet set-ups for the thing are?
Id imagine something like a Pulse set-up and a Tach set-up would be about right.

how many tachs can you manage to get on there with that set-up? O_o
24 mil SPs here and not sure myself.... though i do think my 5% range bonus implant will come in handy.

You can fit 7 tachs or 8 megabeams, the beams have better tracking, less cap use and a larger dot, the tachs have higher 1 salvo gankability & greater range. Tachs also leave you a high slot to fill with something usefull/amusing gangmates will lub you loads if you have a remote armour repair.
You can load 8 tachs but it nerfs your lows alot so isnt really viable.
As for low slots, Lattante's is just about optimal you can fiddle with the number of tracking thingies/dmg mods though. Mostly harmless |

Yes you right, because an apoc wit rc2 has 28k of grid, rc2 + pdu2 (then you dont need the cpr to power stuf) and its 29432
7 tachs take 26250 t2, 28875
8 mega beams 26000 t2, 28600
OMG THE MATHS IT BURNS Mostly harmless |

Edited by: Elve Sorrow on 04/03/2005 16:18:35 Where did anyone say RCUs. You cannot fit 7 Tachyons or 8 Megabeams without one.
EDIT:
Just coz you seem fond of maths:
19.500 * 1.25 * 1.15 = 28.031,25 grid
Goodluck fitting 7 TechII Tachyons with that.

Great jobb Elve, tech the savages that an Apoc can't fit everything without using rcu's, and that the Armag only has "7" Turret slots not 8.
On the topic I find the Apoc to be lacking something horrible in straight up PvP. Aka 1on1 at Gate ranges.
With the tank setup that basically is a must on the thing you loose alot of ground. You can't set the range, can't take on smaller stuff (up close cruisers) and you will be happy to win a fight 1on1, not counting on your enemy being dumb. Only a handfull are.
I have the skillz to use an Apoc (everything at 5 except Pulse spec 5) and I know that other bs's set up good will own it.
Only ship I will win against is a Armag, (assuming an equally skilled pilot is flying the other ship)
I'll give examples to set the scenes;
Domi VS Apoc
A Domi with cap suckers and ful armor tank, coupled with light EW. Webber scrambler dampeners.
Rock paper scissors: If I have a SB I win, if not, then im dead.
Megathron VS Apoc
This is your hardest opponent. He WILL get close, unless you go for a ganka setup on the Apoc, he won't be shot down by the time he get's in close on your a** and welds his ship to your front armor. And at that point it is too late. Dead. You won't hit, track or even have a chance of tanking it.
Raven VS Apoc
Raven set up to kill. ie Torps and skills.
WILL get in close where I can't hit him, then torps WILL break an apoc tank, unless the Raven pilot didn't bring diffrent sorts of Torps. Slim chance of winning here, unless he didn't bring an Ab or Mwd. Or I brought one, and in that case the Always equipped webber on the raven of doom WILL hold me close, and kill me off.
Tempest/Typhoon VS Apoc
These ships have the slot layout to do basicly anything. I've fought Vamp Typhoons and Long Range Tempests, to Torp o' Death Phoon, and Close up Tempests with Daaaamage Mods. You win some you loose some against these beasts. ---------------------------------------------
Assuming you use a Pulse setup with warp scrambler and TAnk, this is what ussually happens. Sure you can tank, and not all setups will break your tank, but assuming you fight 15mill Skillpoibt Chracters, they will.
In my eyes the Apoc sucks for 1on1. Exells at fleet battles, and alot of other areas, like mining HUNTING, and such. These are some of the reasons all the PvE ppl use Armags in combat. Some do it to gank fast with low cash input
All IMHO naturally.

Did you read my post? rc2 + pdu lets you fit 7 t2 tachs and if read Lallante's youd have seen the setup i was on about had an rc fitted :P Mostly harmless |

For pvp
High: 4 megapulse2s 2 Malkuth Sieges 2 Named Hvy Nos
Mid: 1 named cap booster with 800 charges 1 7.5 km scrambler (named one) 2 cap recharger2s
Low: 2 L acom reps 5 hardeners (2kinetic 1 exp 2thermal)
those hardeners are true sansha and they use a lot less cpu than normal hardenersą

Let's have some fun shall we ?

That's weapons grade Bolognium, a Megathron will most likely run out of cap before you die in a fully tanked Apoc...

Do not Tank any ship except assualts.
7 Tachyon IIs cant be done because of CPU not PG limits (you need the CPU for everything else

Heh. Of course, thats not true. Any setup you can think of will work better on Apoc than on any other ship. You want megathron-like setup? Easy. 8 megapulse, mwd + web. You win. You want dominix vamp-like setup? Easy. 6 Nos, 2 Neutralizers, 3 large repers, you win. You wants tempest like sniper setup? Megabeams hit hard, and have very good tracking. You can even tank with that. You wants gankapoc? Its not any worse than gankageddon, and have more hp. 8th slot make up for lacked rof bonus. So whats the problem? -- Stories: #1 --

Except for EW, I agree. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

Except for very special case of EW. You can still fit 4 multi jammers and your useall ganking megapulse setup at same time. -- Stories: #1 --

8th turret with one less lowslot does not make up for the 25% rof bonus a geddon can get. ________________________________________________________

Well, the 14% bonus of the 8th turret doesn't exactly make up for the 33% bonus that the geddon gets (.75 inverted to show dmg). That being said, it does have an extra mid which is great for stuffing in something handy like another sensor booster II. That and the extra CPU. Plus the 8th turret does help with initial damage output. So, I dispute your reasoning, but agree the apoc is as good as the arma at being a gankship. ---------------------------

The apoc is great at solo pvp. As are any other ships assuming the pilot knows what he's doing.
I havn't tested the changes to the pulse to be honest, so I can't tell you how they are affected. Though, I can tell you I'v fought against ships which had pulse fitted and they seemed to be at least my equal.

Nothing changed. With MF you still have 12 km optimal, with gamma - 15. So you can sit at gate just as good as before doing the very same damage. You can still break anyone tank at 35km, and further than this disruptors dont work even with new EW change anyway.
And btw, that 25% rof bonus only for Lvl 5 BS skill. How many ppls have that? Lvl 3 or 4 is more common. Whereas 8th slot dont depend on skill... -- Stories: #1 --
