Hello,
Sometimes i like to use the auto-pilot but i dont because its just too slow. Have you ever thought about adding a navigation skill that could improve its precision?
Maybe it could reduce the distance the autopilot lands from objects by 2km. Call it Navigation Prediction or something. 2km each level means 10km reduction at Level 5. Seems a bit much, but there would still be 5km left to travel, which is still a considerable amount especially of you are in a slower ship. |

The slowness is a feature, not a flaw.
Autopiloting should make you go slower as well as putting you at significant risk. |

Autopiloting = something your ship does automatically (who would say) so your skills shouldn't have effect on it. |

Back in the days of yore, the most precisely you could warp to anything, manually or on autopilot, was 15km.
The result was that people made a vast network of bookmarks, 15km behind gates and other locations of interest relative to every other gate and location of interest in every system they traveled through regularly. The servers had to track all these bookmarks, and it was a serious source of lag.
To solve the problem, CCP gave you the option to warp to 0km manually but purposefully never added that option to the autopilot. People got rid of their bookmarks, and everyone moved along happily. Until new players started wondering why there was the discrepancy between manual piloting and the autopilot.
One of the most commonly requested features that could easily be added to the game but never will be is the autopilot to 0 option. As people have said, the autopilot is supposed to be slower and less safe than manually piloting, and the best way to reflect that is imprecise warping. If you want a fluffy justification, well then lets say you, the caspuleer, are letting the ship's computer calculate the warps rather than doing it yourself.
I actually like the idea of imprecise warps, with skills and equipment to make them more precise, and this includes for manual warps. I think it's the masochist in me. Rather than Xkm in front of the destination, though, I would see it being a random spot in a particular radius of the destination, making bookmarks useless to compensate. |

which word dont you understand in "intended feature"? It should expose you to dangers and longer travel times, as drawback for flying afk. |

You misunderstand.
Travel over significant distances is supposed to be a time sink.
Auto pilot is something you use if you give up on manual control so you can go afk. It accepts that you are going to take even longer, but you accept that in exchange for not repetitively micromanaging jump after jump. You get to walk away while it handles the tedium.
It is a trade off. Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. Also, you can't stop moving in the game. Just add in a way so every ten minutes you are randomly warped to the nearest other player. Keeps people from going AFK. |

I think auto pilot is something people use when they dont want to click heaps. However its so slow that they might as well go afk. |

Here in New Eden we are happy to introduce the Pod Express Shuttle Service.
A new, free, and completely hassle way to travel!!
You have been found running around in your pod, a fragile little thing, and so we wished to speed up your travel time as a free and gratuitous service while you enjoy your stay in high security space.
While we were at it we also thought your clone to be a rather old, defunct and outdated version and so, due to our affiliation with cloning services throughout New Eden we have allowed you the great satisfation of a new and better clone.
Make sure to check out the gift shop on your way out. Have a nice day! Support my implant marketing campaign: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1903853#post1903853

Mining... did you know, if you stare at it hard enough, a strip miner takes the exact same amount of time? Except in cases where an asteroid is depleted before a cycle ends, there is no value in being attentive at mining. The only reason to be present is to shift ore around for storage and transport.
Now travel, that's a gem. If I want to increase the quality and value of my results, I can pay attention, select my warp to locations manually, and I will get there MUCH faster! Where else does effort so smoothly translate into reward?
And here you are, attempting to nerf the reward of my effort, my sacrifice of time at my keyboard when I could be surfing for humorous pictures of kittens and puppies... You want to give that same reward to those who would make no extra effort, just turn on autopilot.
Will they be auto-mining next, or auto-pvping? Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. You can still beat the guy autopiloting, even if he has the skill at level 5 But your system rewards AFK pilots in two ways, not just one!
First, they spend much less time traveling between the warp in point and the gate or station. This diminishes the value of attended play by the amount of time you save on autopilot.
Second, directly based off the first, you have less risk. Possibly aggressive pilots have a harder time scanning you and determining the need to attack you in the reduced window of opportunity.
I feel this diminishes attended play more than is wise. Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. The skill is available to everyone, whatever one person stands to gain from it, everyone stands to gain, prices will adjust.
There might be less risk, but ganking is still possible. In fact, kills might become even more lucrative because people think autopilot is now safer. But once gankers adjust its buisness as usual. o/ |
