I know that this idea will not go over very well with most of the eve players, at least at first. But I think we should have to pay the crews of the ships we have (not those still packaged). Please hear me out before you all tell me how bad of an idea this is.
Ok, what I am proposing is this. Every ship class has a per week standerd fee for operation. lets say for a frigate it is around 100isk. You are given a choice to pay that amount, 1/2 that amount, not pay them at all, pay 2 times the amount or 3 times the amount. and depending on what choice you choose you get a crew quality factor for your ship. (my sugestion is that this has an efect on the ships special bounises listed in the decription of the ship)
I know that a few of you are woundering why I would want this. Well there are 2 reasons. first is from a rollplaying point of view. Our ships have crews, so we should pay them. The secound is that it would be another way to make our ships better. It would give a little extra something to the player who is willing to spend a little isk on it.
ok, now that I have layed out my thoughts, lets here yours.

nice idea apart from the fact we don't have crews
I believe everything is automated and run from our eggs.
Enjoy!

ships do have a crew
they just require a smaller one because of pod technology. Please read the chronicles / science articles before talking :P
although yes, some of the smaller frigates have 0 crew

There was an old post a long time ago about having a crew that gave your ship bonuses.
For example:
Tactical Officer - 2% bonus to damage Warp Drive Engineer - 2% less cap when warping etc...
You get the idea. Honestly I think if we could pay crew a weekly fee that will be good.
These NPCs could be purchaced or earned through agent mission offers.
Think of them like "ship implants"...

Edited by: BlueSmok on 06/03/2005 23:14:10 I always assumed the crew that filled my ship did it for the greater glory of my race. Though I guess such enlightened ideals have no place in a market driven game. So how fast this gets added into the game is determined upon how many programers in CCP are american or Wannabees :)

would be good if over time your crew gathered experience, (over a long time) or depending on what you do, it would open up a whole new crew market, green crews, experienced crews, veteran crews, elite crews ect Wayz: cmon X hurry up I aint got all day! notto mention you should have different crew catagories to stop people from just getting pure action vs weak npc's in a frigate then switching their crew over to a cruiser, unless.... hmmm you have to combine crews to create a bigger crew for a larger crew slot and also they gain qualifications for different ship types so the first time you transfer them to a different ship they lose ALOT of experience.
I think teh reason that this prolly hasnt been implemented is because of that. to make it work would require alot opf work and a complicated exp syetem but if the devs did implement it there would be a new dimension to the game that would be really cool. Imagine crews being sold on the market for billions because they just take so long to get perfect so having an elite crew is the ultimate comodity. Splice that with the wages system as well mentioned in another thread and it would sererely expand the game Wayz: cmon X hurry up I aint got all day! Even though I am a new player and thus don't have billions of ISK to spend on paying a crew, just made my first million 2 days ago, I have to admit I like this idea. I think this would also add new skills. Leadership is taken already, but how about commander or great leader each rank improving how well your crew functions under you. As we know a crew will jump thru hoops for a great leader. It would obviously be charisma based with a secondary of willpower maybe.
My character is a Minmatar and thus started with a Reaper. Make the starting ships have no crew. I have upgraded to a Rifter. Maybe have an option for a small crew or no crew at all on the larger frigates. Once you hit destroyer size and up you must have a crew to function in any reasonable compacity other then to limp along. I kinda like the idea of crew loyalty coming into the game. Thinking Star Trek. How far would Bones, Spock, Scotty, ect go for Captain Kirk? As a Minmatar if my crew were former slaves that I had freed and I had a high charisma plus the crew leadership skill, whatever it would end up being, maybe my ship would gain in bonuses such as extra hp since the crew will go to great ends to keep her working. Just thinking along the roleplaying aspect.
Anyway, good idea Basst. Now lets hope they can/will take this into consideration.

Edited by: JarmenKell on 08/03/2005 17:17:25 to be honest with you its not a bad idea but there is 1000's of things with rather have done before paying the goddamn crew :-p ---------- dont you agree.
i mean this is cool right it adds to the realism of the game, but lets add more fun than work, there is enogh mining to be done as it is.
