Actually I would say there is more unexpected sodomy in Empire space, because the fights are almost always one guy actually attempting to learn to not be a scrub only to invariably have some shitheel with 40 friends waiting on either a bounce or on the other side of a gate waiting for that adorable chucklefuck to push f1.
In lowsec, if you live down there, you know plenty well when you are going to die more often than not; and that's usually to some gang with decent tackle (doesn't happen often) that you that you can't escape/burn the gate/overheat and pray you get away from. Literally no surprise here at all.
