Just started playing Eve and think it's great but.....starting off is very tedious.
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to either be able to buy or have a mining "auto-pilot" this would (while you were logged out) just sweep back and forth between a preset station and a pre-set asteroid belt dumping the raw rock at the station and zooming out to mine again.
You wouldnt be able to say what type of astyeroid to mine, or refine it but at least when you logged back in you'd have some cash.

No way... If you had an autominer what would be the point on playing eve... turn your computer on, switch Autominer on in a 1.0 area.... log off, come back in 2 weeks after a holiday or something... Have enough cash to buy a Battleship...
Yeah right... i can really see that balancing out the game!
Half the fun of making a purchase on Eve is knowing that you've earnt the damn thing!
But in all fairness, i do agree with you, mining is tedious... i've earnt millions from trading instead.. If your a little bored, i suggest you buy a bestower and try it ;)

Yes but getting to the point of being able to buy a ship is the tedious part - just an idea to speed things up a little especially as Star Wars Galaxies is out now - will be interesting how they have tackled character development.

Your right - forget it, it would be silly I guess - and more sense of accomplishment when you do get to buy a new ship/kit etc.
I'm currently trying mission runs (mostly courier) and this brings in at least as much as a cargo full of rock but at least is a little more interesting.

I think the problem with that is, why not just have an autopilot for the whole game, it would make mining pointless and irrelevent to the game!

Im glad you are seeing that a patient man is rewarded in Eve, if you can get past that first few weeks and realise that mining is not what the game is about, then your options open up immensley.

Remember that there are far more interesting things than mining too do. Trading is pretty fun, and also fighting pirates
If you are new perhaps joining a corp and helping them, they will have more advanced things for you to do, at least group mining which is pretty fun
