A friend of mine and I are new and have been playing for a few days now. We will be looking around at different corps to maybe join in the near future, but was curious to hear from players what corps. they think are good ones to look into. If anyone would post either theirs or ones they know of or heard that are great corps to join, Please reply.
We will be checking all the corps that will be posted so only serious replies please. Thanks

check my signature. look at the corporations listed (link will say "website") in the left and right menu bars.
this isn't a pimp of 'ordo ministorum' because you're a smelly caldari and the 'ordo' only accepts amarr.

well, like i said, try that link of mine because i went through the entire list of corps and picked the ones with the best information and best layouts for websites...i assumed that those well organized enough to make a damn good website were in the running for the best corporations.
*shrug* seemed a logical supposition. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

Edited by: RollinDutchMasters on 08/03/2005 08:30:40 Finding a good corp:
1 - Figure out what you want to do in EVE. Figure out who is well known for that particular field. Ask a few of their members for suggustions on corps to join - people who are active in a field will be better able to give suggustions then random idiots.
2 - If a corp doesnt use TeamSpeak, reguardless of what they do, smile, wave, and move on.
3 - Any corp that is willing to recruit with spam-cans or by sending alts into the noob channels is a ****ty corp. Join them at your peril.
4 - You arent stuck with the first corp you join. Shop around a bit if you dont like where you end up.
5 - Its the corp recruiter's job to make sure that you fit in with the corp. Its your job to make sure that the corp fits in with you. They're selling themselves as much or more then you're selling you. If they cant be bothered to give you more then basic details about corp operations, tell them to go fornicate themselves with an iron stick.

Actually there is such an outrageous multitude of corps in EVE that you really have to find your own. Just about everyone will recommend their own corp; if they liked another one better, why haven't they joined?

I think that this is such a good response it should be a sticky on the Corp Recruitment section. This is the kind of excellent advice that really makes theses forums worthwhile. Thanks RollinDutchMasters for a quality post mate.

Edited by: aidem on 09/03/2005 17:24:47 Edited by: aidem on 09/03/2005 17:24:12 hey look I am posting with an alt and the reasons why will become apparent soon.
Don't
- Join the first corp who asks you - There are corps who just want to boost member count for thier own agendas. Don't let yourself become a statistic
- Get suckered with free gifts - The average 2 month old player can make over a mil isk an hour by mining in secure space. A few skill books, a cruiser or similar aren't worth much in the long run.
- Let people do make you do something that might impact your enjoyment of the game - A good corp won't expect you to haul minerals all the time, a good corp won't expect you to mine all the time, a good corp won't darg you off to pvp fight if you don't feel confident
Do
- Hang out in a few corps public channels - Get to know people first, you are going to have to speak to these people every day for a while
- Be wary of everyone - It's easy for people to be ars*holes when they are sat behind a computer screen
- Ask questions - A knowledgable mentor is worth far more than the few freebies you might get offered.
- Expect a good corp to be a little wary of you at first - They have no way of knowing if you are some alt out to rip them off.

Edited by: Sky Hunter on 09/03/2005 18:04:09 Well i wouldnt say that last point of Dont is ok.
Whats wrong with those who cant mine with Apoc or another turret BS will haul all the time? Or you wanna mine with Cruiser? Go ahead. Youll make more less then hauling for apoc/barge pilot.
pvp? its your duty to defend yr corp space\station\system\buddys
Sometimes people tell you the right thing and you dont like, and do yrself mistake. -=-

yeah, I could have been clearer with that one;
Don't let someone make you mine for 6 hours a week if you really want to become a pvp person. If you want to run missions you need to find a corp that is cool with you running missions. If you want to become the great industrialist you need a corp that will let you follow that career path. Sure there are times pvp'ers need to mine to replace lost ships and replenish corp coffers. There are also times that miners need to jump into a frigate and scout / tackle / make the map blob look bigger but those times need to be the exception to preserve your ability to fufill the corp role you enjoy.

there are four basic career types in Eve. - miners/traders
- agent runners*
- bounter hunters**
- explorers (jack-of-all-trades)
A decently organized corporation that isn't the flavour of the month will have a solid understanding and infrastructure to support all 4 types. If they don't, best beware.
*-since these people go for high standings this type invariably has the refiners/builders/researchers/stationers included

I think this needs a bump to keep it at the top for all new Eve players to see. I'm not sure who decides what becomes a sticky but I think this must fit the criteria. Thanks to everyone who has made some excellent contributions, I wish I could have read something like this when I started playing Eve.

Ok im a ceo of my own corp and i will be looking for new members when i get back on game anyway my corp doesnt say"you have to do this mine so long and so forth" you are free to do what you want with no presure from me or my directors if im not on one of my directors can help out with problem solving for new members.Im manly a corp for those starting out to gain some experience of game if they leave after a few days or months it wont worry me abit at least i'll feel that ive shown or my directors have shown them respect for thier future in eve.My corp isnt very big but it sustains itself nps i personally mine and haul most of the time so i can help or instruct to any new member what ive learnt in game and as most of my friends on eve will say dont i ever not play eve,do i ever sleep and do i eat or are you a flipping robot lolz.so if you want to learn some in game tuition then you cpuld join my corp if not its no problem with me as theres some cool corps out there who will show you the way also thats me done.

What makes a good corp? It's all a matter of opinion, but these would be some of the things I would look for:
1. The corp should have some clear goals. It will be so much more rewarding to work with people towards achieving something.
2. Good out-of-game communications. A corp with its own website, forums, and teamspeak or ventrilo server is more likely to have some dedicated members and be in it for the long haul.
3. People you get on with. This is the most important one! Any corp worth its salt will have a public channel or forums so you can meet and chat with some of its members before signing up with them.

the fact is there are many "good" corps and many "bad" corps, i could say the corp i'm in is the best, but you might not think so. shop around until you find other people who are like minded with yourself. to tell the truth i doubt it'll be the first corp you join but you might get lucky! happy corp hunting

you know, i'm actually in favour of corp hopping just to get a taste of different corps. I personally would like to join some of the bigger non-pvp squads just to get a feel for how they operate.
*shrug* I have my own take on how my roleplay is. (1) warhammer40k theme (amarr "religious" context) (2) non-pvp oriented (but not rabid carebear)i like that theme, but CVA alliance really cannot satisfy this urge because they are PVP and i'm really just a happy simcity kinda guy who'd base motive for joining/creating a corp is for LOOT BINS This game is about community and i think it's rather blinkered to not at least take a TOUR of different corps. hell, some might even change the way you look at eve's environment. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |
