I've been playing this game for 3 days. I tried mining and, it was boring and tedious, but it made me nice isk, especially when a higher leveled guy showed me a spot in 0.5 space where he destroyed the rats that spawned in mere seconds. I went bac the next day without an escort this time, in a probe. Some angels appeared on radar, and I tried to stay just a little longer, so I could have enough to refine when I got back to base. It was over before I knew it. I was ****ed. My first dead ship. I then took the money I saved up, and built a fighter out of a minmatar slasher frigate. It's long range combat outfitted right now, with railgun, and missiles. I killed every angel in 0.6 space with ease, no matter how many there were. I'm going to attempt 0.5 tonight, and if all goes well, 0.4. I was wondering, how dead do you think I will be when I go to 0.4?

Edited by: AgueReon on 07/03/2005 22:15:38 Just practice, but railguns? if your going long range put some artillery on that slasher it will gain from the tracking bonus it has. Just keep your distance and you will be fine. Try using different types of ammo to suit your style. Hope it all works out, if you need any slasher just mail me

Okay, thanks. Is the PVP in 0.4 as rough as my corp made it sound?

Mwah, its true that your saver in .0 then in .4 to be honest, but if you have a nice system where there is almost no traffic and its near a .5 system (2 or more jumps?) if shouldnt be that bad. Its usually the high traffic .4 that is messed up.

it get's pritty rough somtimes, but you are in a frig and should be able to escape. I should be on later, if you want you can convo me and i'll try to help you get the ropes of .4 fighting in a frig. Yes, i am a pirate. No,i will not shoot a frigate unless it shoots me. ____________________________ Waiting to cut out the deadwood. Waiting to clean up the city. Waiting to follow the worms. |

I'm fairly new but I have a been doing well in .4 The rats are worth much more then in .5 and the drops are better.
I even though I don't have high skills, I can manage .4 because of the way I select my spots.
While I can handle any NPC pirate, I am not ready for any unexpected PvP while rat hunting.
My solution was to study the Map (set it to display security settings) and choose an .4 space that is bracketed by high security space. In other words, you have to travel though high sec to get there from any angle. This keeps out those Pirate Players with low sec rate quite well.
As an exmaple check out Decon. That place is great. You will still run into some player Pirates, just very infrequently. I keep my local window up all the time so I can see who enters the area when I am hunting.
Happy Hunting

always keep local open, if you dont need to move keep your ship pointed towards somewhere, preferably a safespot you have made...
to make a safespot just drop a bookmark while warping between two objects... open people and places and then the places tab to drop a bookmark.
if your jumping from belt to belt, dont sit at the spot you land when jumping in. if someone goes through the belts and then enters your belt he's gonna land right on top of you.
Always be suspicious of unknowns in 0.1 - 0.4. If you dont know him and he is in your belt leave fast, always assume he's there to get you.
dont go into 0.4-0.0 in something you cant afford to loose. and always remember insurance. If you dont feel like loosing a mod or a ship, leave it at home. always check the map for people in space, ships destroyed the last hour and podkills the last hour. if you see a big red blip, avoid it. it is most likely someone camping.
if you are warpscrambled and see your ship going down, dont panic. Instead prepare for your ship blowing up by selecting something to warp to so you can get your pod out. Implants, assuming you have them are expensive.
Get some friends, that will make everything more fun, and help scare away pirates. more often than not a pirate will leave if he's uncertain on what he is up against. One ship with EW and another with scramblers can be enough to render a ship useless.
Thats all the advice I can come up with for now, might be back later with more

0.4 rats in a frig can be tough in a frigate, so be very careful. Personally, I wouldn't go into 0.4 untill I was in a cruiser, just to make sure that I had the capabilities to take on the ships there (I can handle thme in a frigate easily these days, but I used to find it hard if I landed on a tough spawn)

A slasher won't do too well in 0.4. Maybe not even 0.5. L2 frigs are kinda gimped. Get yourself a Breacher or Rifter and strap on some artillery. Rails suck in general, and especially on Minmatar ships. With one of those ships you'll have a lot of fun in low sec. And as others have said, watch out for player pirates. It's not necessarily horrible, but if they catch you and scramble you before you can get away, you'll die quickly. But if you're paying attention to local and the map, that won't be easy in one of those frigs.

Well I accidently bought a mod deep in 0.4 space. I had to go through four 0.4 systems to get it. I didn't find anyone there, so I made it safely out. I went to 0.5 to test my setup against some other pirates. I nearly died. My shield was gone, and I had barely scratched 1 of the 4 angels who attacked me. I will wait a little before I hunt in 0.4 space.
