I was asked to post this here by GM NoValue.
I know CCP have started a price escalator to free up lab slots, but I think the logic is flawed. The people without lab slots are new players with limited funds. The people who hold them are large corporations with (comparatively) unlimited funds. All they will do to cover their increasing lab slot costs is raise the price of their blueprints to cover it.
An alternative suggestion...limit the length of a rental (not sure what to, maybe 14 days?) and then in between have an enforced "cleaning period", a random interval between 4 and 48 hours (not shown to the players) before it can be rented again. This should give all players an equal chance to rent a slot, whilst still having a "back story" explanation. CCP could even put a little "Cleaning in Operation" icon up for it! ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Edited by: Phoenix 777 on 08/03/2005 13:30:00 Edited by: Phoenix 777 on 08/03/2005 13:09:45 now... why dont we limit every alliance to one station and every corp to one office......
and make tons of conqurable stations,... so every noob corp can have the same stuff that the strongest alliance....
i think that things should be limited... and they are limited also for the reason that not anybody can have it... you must do something to get it...
i also think that ccp solved this problem... labs are getting unrented.... prices are dropping....
we all know that most people dont really need labs... they just want to see them once they wanna know what they look like... so if there were slots free, most people wouldnt even have them rented for long...
but cause they were so cheap.. and so limited... people reserved those last ones for them if they didnt need them.... later every player reserved one if he got it,... just so he could sell it later...
now all this is fixed... i think there be plenty of slots free... the other problem is that some people dont know that me and pe are exponential.. .and they research them up to stupid lvls....
people who know that might do it for marketing reasons... as again buyers only want a higher number even if they dont know what it means...
but now it has becoem to expensive to waiste time on me 300 and 1000.... more people will use labs smarter... and enough of them will be free......
who wouldnt research unlimited me and pe.... with the old state... that 1000 isk per 5 days that a slot costed....
btw... i think it also might help if ccp would limit ME and PE to a reasonable level, lets say... 100 or 200 max... lab wouldnt research it any further once its pass max

Let me guess...Dark Choas Industries...I guess you have plenty of cash and so plenty of lab slots, so you're happy with the way things are. If I'mwrong, tell me how many lab slots your corp has given up since the changes were introduced...if the answer's "zero", then I don't really think your opinion is unbiased.
If not, please accept my apology. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

prices dropping...where just got my new bill for the 1 lab i have up to 2.5 million isk...think it would just be easier to setup a limit..based on character skill. if you can't use the lab you can't rent it. just like if your not a CEO you can't rent an office. that would limit people to a max of 6 labs per char and it would be smart to make that the limit per account.

Right now this is my bigest grip in game. I have even petetioned these costs. 2.5 mil for 5 days.. Not the solution. Yes its going to fee up lab slots. mom and pop corps. Like me. I have alot of bpo's that I have purchased. And I need to research for mineral eff. BUT I cannot pay 2.5 mil for 2 slots every 5 days. PLUS 9.5 mil a month for my Office.
there must be another solution. GIVE ME SLOTS. Let the players have fun. And let the players to be able to build stuff to sell and make profits. CCP this is a game that should be fun and not just for the large corps that can afford these prices.
PLEASE make the game more fun.

Price escalation isb the only way to go if you want a player run ecconomy.
The only alternative is to have unlimited number of lab slots.
The problem upp till now has in reality not been that there have been too few lab slots, the problem has been that a great many slots have been kept out of circulation by players who: A) hope to sell the slots for an insane profit. B) keep the slot out of circulation to reduce the ability for others to research BPO's C) by locking upp all the stations lab slots made the station and in combination the system less attractive to other players.
As the escalation moves on all things will sort themselves out, first slots in the fringes will become available (as I have seen they have), then the superhighway lab slots will become so expensive that even the ricest players on eve cringe when they see the bill and thus slots will open upp there.
A good indication of how it will work is the factory slots, they work on the same design and where I a few months ago would have to fight for a factory slot I can now find ample ones all over. Lab slots will just take longer and end upp at a higher price.

I like the idea where you can't rent more labs than you have skills to. I've only ever had 5 labs, and those 5 labs are now costing me more than I can afford. I'll finish researching what I've got, and let them go.
I'm a single person, I've not had ages and ages to accumulate wealth, and I'm not researching T2 BPOs or gobs of shuttle BPOs to insane ME levels.
I'm even researching in deep space to help do my part to allieviate the lab problems in empire.
A corp should be limited to 12 labs, and an individual to 6. And then, only if said corp has 2 someones with the corp Research officer skill and level 5 lab op. If you can't use it, you can't rent it. Period. I think that aught to apply to factories too just to keep things consistant.
