...tried to post this in the Alliance Disc. forums, but it wouldn'tlet me for some reason, so if it's moved I understand.
Are there any established, new player friendly Alliances that don't require FBI/CIA type background checks and application processes?
E-UNI seems fine and all but....I have to get in line, then sit online and wait for my name to be called for an interview?? Dude I'm a truck driver, I barely get a lot of gaming time as is, I wont be spending it sitting in a friggin queue.
I get having requirements for entry, but Jesus Christ...
I'm basically wanting to learn PvP. I'm a fast learner and very active when I have time (roughly 4-5 hours per day).
I'd like to join Goonswarm or Test, not for any sort of prestige ( OMG I WANNA B A GOONZ). No. I couldn't care less about any sort of E-Cred. Again, it's about me wanting to join someone who is established and can actually teach me the game. A small corp is just trying to inflate its numbers. They claim to be helpful, then don't teach you anything. I'd like someone established with connections and large enough to have a hefty number of active players to run with so I learn faster. Again a small corp just makes it to difficult to get into fleet activities as they barely have enough players as is.
So If you are a corp in a large alliance that helps new players and in turn gives new players a place where they can give back and contribute, send me a mail please. No I'm not stupid, I'm not giving you one isk. I'm not giving you any of my things. The only thing I'll be giving you "initially" are verbs, nouns, adjectives and an API key. If that's not enough then please find someone else to scam.

You simply cannot have established alliances that are newbie friendly without having thorough security protocols. If you're established, you're worth targeting and newbie characters are cheap, disposable covers.
TEST and GSF can get away with being newbie friendly because they source their newbies from out of game communities, recruiting people who already have established identities. Recruiting newbies from in game channels without thorough checks is just asking to be riddled with spies.
That said, you may want to consider lowsec FW or pirate corps. They have much less at stake and tend to be more welcoming to strangers than established 0.0 alliances. I would highly recommend Rifterlings (hi Petrus!) or Black Rebel Rifter Club. Rifterlings has awesome newbie resources, a healthy number of vets and a very active director corps. You'll be learning in good hands with them. |

Hi! What's up? Thanks for the bump, Maria!
Yes, some of us do exist who do not require a large pile of paperwork, like E-Uni does. We also have a much more relaxed and unstructured environment, which cuts both ways: for one, you're not bound by a million rules and regulations (like "you can't go to 0.0 without supervision!"), but on the other hand it requires a bit more self-motivation to get yourself going. Link to my corp's webpage is in my sig Gå¦

cf: GoonieSwarm, NC, Pandemic, etc... This bears to mention. Alliances are collections of corporations working together for a common objective. It may happen that a corporation in an alliance is "newbie-friendly", but the whole alliance likely isn't. The difference is that it will be your corp-mates helping you out and showing you how to best fit in, not someone across the alliance. Well take Test for instance....I got mail from someone today telling me I have to be on a forum for 3 months before I can even apply....how the hell does that prevent spying? And what does it have t do with Eve?
I already have limited playing time as is (as do most working adults), so not only will I have to be active in game, but I also have to be active on some forum for 3 months??? I mean is this a game, or am I applying for a Government job?
It just seems like Alliances are very clickish and seek to exclude new players which really only hurts the entire community in the end. We new players already have to spend time studying to learn the game (which I do. I DL E-Uni lectures and listen to them while I drive, I'm a trucker). These Alliances are now adding MORE crap that we have to do? If they're worried about spies, why don't they just create a newbie corp within their Alliance and have a probationary period? It allows us to get in on the action without getting sensitive information. I just find it odd that players make it even MORE difficult for new players to get into the game. No one wants to play alone. The small corps aren't active and the big ones make you jump through hoops to join, some even requiring insane SP levels, then calling themselves newb friendly (how is requiring 5 mill SP newb friendly???). This is why so many try the game and after 1 week leave. I've done this before myself. EvE is boring to play alone. I like the game but if I can't find others to play with, I'll just leave and the community will remain stagnant. Veterans should be encouraging growth not stunting it with Elitist practices. They have a right to do what they want, just my 2 cents. |

I just. Want. To play. Agreed, its one of the reasons I've yet to join a player corp myself. I understand that corporations and alliances are concerned about spys and are mistrustful of new people, but at the same time I am by nature mistrustful of others as well. They ask how they can trust me, I respond how can I trust them? And there in is the paradox of EVE Online, a game designed to be experienced with others as a group, but at the same time a game that encourages deceit to such an extent that trust becomes difficult to cultivate. Hardly an enjoyable gaming environment for the average gamer.
And so I remain in an npc corp, farming my missions and hauling my stuffs, waiting until such time as I manage to figure out how to overcome this paradox. Its good to be Gallente. |

Go out to low sec. With a rifter. Engage any halfway viable targets, even against the odds (e.g against destroyers and cruisers or against 2:1 odds, but not against drake blobs - you want to appear brave not stupid). Don't just go after the easy targets like the 2 day old mining in their navitas, go after the -10 in the thrasher, even if you will probably lose. Be polite. Give a GF if you lose. Discuss fittings and strategy with the locals. Ignore smack talk.
Good PVP corps are always looking for pilots who have a pair and don't need their arse wiped.

I lolled at this OP, we're like minded.
First corp I joined (under another char) was by invite after I posted in recruit channel that YOU ARE NOT EVEN GETTING MY API in caps.
Anyone can spai on any corp/alliance with ease and no amount of vetting is gonna stop that. Only stupid spais get caught and only stupid recruiters think they can actually stop it with an API background/check.
I looked at a good 0.0 corp the other day, they had all I need etc. etc. UNTIL I saw the dictatorial and moronic methods of recruitment.
We will ONLY accept your app with the template provided. We will ONLY consider your application if this, if that.......
Needless to say, I didnt bother. One pilot less for them. Like you, I just wanna play.
PS: Reminds me of a WH corp with a 15 question Q and A I trolled some time back. Obvious right wing capitalist crank CEO that obviously wanted you to give him all all your money if he messed up.
I answered all 15 q's citing Karl Mark, Mein Kampff and a good dose of socialistic claptrap. I had a good laugh when it was "rejected" out of hand.

That seems alright to do...though I've done it. That's right. One day I said F it, and just plotted a course to Goon Space.I hit a low sec gate, jumped and got stuck in some bubbles. Got one shotted. Back to my clone 30+ jumps away.
I'm open to trying it again, but meh...just seems like I'm giving pirates free kills if anything. |

Lol.
But yeah seriously, I'm just looking to learn and jump in some action. Give me an active Corp/Alliance, preferably even one at war. Bring me along on some OPs. THATS how I learn. It just seems like these guys want you to sit around skilling for 4-5 months THEN you can join...only after you endure some BS application process. I can play WHILE I skill you know??? Give me a frigate, I'll scout or something. I can listen in on comms and learn the lingo and whatnot. Learning and having fun. The issue is again, it seems like a lot of these Alliances have forgotten that this is a GAME. Even the Goons, and they claim that's against what they stand for. Even they have some ridiculous entry reqs (you have to be on SomethingAwful forums, then you go there and there's ridiculous reqs for joining the forum, i.e. you have to be sponsored by someone who knows you)...What??? Why even have a forum??? It seems to me you only let in close friends and family members, since we have to already know you outside of the game. It's just stupid.
I just searched Red.Overlord and AAA....hell these guys are Russians...So not only do you have to jump through hoops, NOW you have to worry about whether or not the members speak your language.
Love the game CCP...I really do but if this continues I'll just have to find something else to play. I'll be damned if I'm spending all f this time skilling up just to play by myself, while the big wars and engagements (the fun stuff) are reserved for these E-**** Alliances and the little cliques and circles within them.Either that or hey, New folks msg me and let's start our own s**t...

Stopping awox/spais was a problem once before but not anymore. You can be made red/neut at the touch of a button now. Half of the security was because of the free flying corp member drop issues. |
