I like the idea, but can see possibilities for lameness.
what would be better would be pvp events.
Players could sign up via their faction agents to PVP events.
then you could attack / defend faction structures guard/attack faction convoys
Or even join NPC faction fleets attacking other NPC faction fleets. <->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->-<->

Edited by: Yith Solarius on 20/06/2005 11:19:04 Agree'd something like the current storyline missions, after a few weeks of waiting a select number of players running missions for the blood pirates get an eve-mail saying they are needed for a very dangerous special mission - run a cargo of viral agents deep into gallante space and deploy it in the atmosphere of a heavily populated planet.
At this point players can talk to the agent and say yes i would like to do this and i will be flying a frig/cruser/bs etc... agent says ok - meet at bla bla bla 3 days from now.
Once the numbers and ships have been confermed gallante mission runners start giving out mails saying an attack is iminent we need your help - and again you can sign up with the agent saying what ship your in - its now known what sorta ships are there so the agent will decide who to pick to match the blood fleet as cloasly as possible.
On the day of the mission the blood fleet goes to there mission location - a deadspace bubble and may only pass through if there in the ship they said they were in, in there they find the player(s) chosen to fly the haulers with the viruses in it (possibly aurora if they can be spared) they then get given there flight path and set off.
Meanwhile exactly the same has happened at the gallante end exept the players are grouped into small gangs and sent to gaurd stargates.
The event is now running and everyone enjoys themselves

its a really good idea . but i hate it lol
before you push for this at the developers think carefully . it would really destroy pvp as it is atm . most people interested in pvp will use this system and the game as it is now would most likeley disapear as it is. lol sorry mabe im not explaining my fears properly . its just i can see the game going from 0.0 player combat etc . corp v corp . alliance v alliance combat disapearing . i mean i admit if it was implemented id probably use the system with my pvp character and never see traditional player combat again in 0.0 .
dunno if thats bad . but needs too be thought over

i completely agree with arutha this would , if not completely remove the actual pvp seriously gimp it. and that i dont want to see happen.
pvp is in the world of eve completely integrated to the economical and political environment.
the system you describe and the amends you made to it are relatively clear and in its whole your idea has been thought over carefully.
BUT the system in the beginning (let alone in the end) is far from being intuitive or natural.
pvp in eve is natural, there are no rules, you do what you want. there are no game mechanics to tell you 'you cant shoot at that player in that area' in high sec space and other immersion spoilers like that, instead we chose to play a game where you can do what you want but where you have to bear the consequenses of what you do.
every time one starts to apply restriction on the number of people that can be involved the class of characters(here ships) the modules that can be brought, restrict pvp to certains secured area where he is sure no one will come and flaw the balance between the duelists, he spoils the whole immersion and feeling of war. he spoils the thrill he spoils the concept of war which is bearing the consequences of your behaviour.
This natural pvp system we have where there is no rules but the physics of eve world is thrilly and means something it is full of consequences. insulting people have consequences, joining a corp have consequences.
the pvp system that you want to sell us has no taste, but it smells bad, it smells like the last conspiracy of carebears to spoils a little more the game of the hard core pvp players.
your system is far too artificial to be reliable it will soon be exploited in all aspects and people will whine about it, so it will become even more complicated to tackle these problems until the point all the flaws have been removed.
But at that point it will be so artificial that people will ask themselves why some odd unpredictable things happen, it will look like another game it will look like space guild wars or jump to lightspeed.
of course you will say i never spoke of removing the actual system of pvp, no you did not, and it wont disapear either, but my question is can the game dabble into both areas, -be a game where you can do everything and the only limit is your imagination and you cunning and at the same time, be a game where you cant do this because your ship does not match the balancing pattern, not bring that module because it not in the rules of the artificial agrement of engagement etc... having chat box every 5 minutes telling : - sorry but warp is forbiden here you have to go away from the fray. -sorry but the 35 second timer has not finished you can't shoot yet on your opponent.
like the gallente federation and the caldari state would have cared that fielding 25 battleships against an attack force of 4 cruisers because it was .... 'unfair' or not fairplay and organised only encounters between same number and same class of ships without 'dirty' modules like cloaks, micro warp drive and ecm jammers.....because it is lame
In the meantime i think that the idea behind all this is good really good, cold war between ennemy faction through players yes that is really good.
but to me i see 3 options and they are natiural and integrated into thbe actual pvp system.
competitive pve mission system,
id est : players make the factions they are loyal to earn points when they accomplish npc missions and this has an influence like you said on their standings towards the diffrent faction in eve (yes one cant please everybody at the same time) if astral mining have a lot more points than joint harvesting the economy is getting slightly changed.
competitive pvp missions,
navy black ops agent of caldari navy gives player A a special mission while once this mission has been accepted a gallente federation navy agent issues a special mission to a random player that has a good standing to the federation if he accepts it it is his and he is player B, if not it is proposed to another player. the mission could be as simple as go to a system we dont know already the name collect this item on a npc that will show up in a belt and bring it back here. the mission has to be accomplished in a time window of X hours at the beginning of which the name of the system is disclosed to player A first and in a matter of 15 minutes to player B. during this time window player A and B are like 1 indivudal corps at war. the same scenario could happen between carthum conglo and roden shipyard or whatever coprs/factions have rivalities.
this could also lead to retaliation pvp mission agent in gal fed says mister C, yesterday pilot A stole our exp' module in that system you have 72 hours to kill him we will provide you his exact location as often as possible. and for 72 hours pilot A and C are like 1 member corps at war.
