Please add salvage drones that can automatically shuttle loot to our ships.
Sample use case:
- Several loot cans are scattered in space.
- Launch salvage drones.
- Select group of salvage drones and right click the option Salvage
- Drones automatically scatter and attempt to pickup all item from loot cans around the ship.
- Once a drone is full it returns back to the ship that sent it and drops it into the cargo hold.
- If there is more cargo to be salvaged the drone will continue to shuttle back and forth until the loot can is full.
- If the ship's cargo bay is full when it return it pops up a window saying, "Your cargo bay is full, do you want to jettison the following items:<list of items the drone is carrying> [Yes] [No]"
- If you press no the drone will continue to carry the items otherwise it will jettison the item(s) into a can.
- If the timer for creating a can is not ready yet then it will attempt to place into a can that is within range that the ship's owner has rights to drop into, otherwise it will just keep the cargo and continue to orbit.

Edited by: ollobrains on 09/03/2005 09:52:02 interesting - though a limit of 2 for any ship might be worthwhile
Opens up more skills that could be introduced and technology, even salvage missions ie get to field get all loot as quickly as possible using our new salvage drones.

Why? Shouldn't the ship owner balance the number of salvage drones carried vs. Mining and Combat drones? Originally by: ollobrains Opens up more skills that could be introduced and technology, even salvage missions ie get to field get all loot as quickly as possible using our new salvage drones.
Probably a new skill like:
Salvage Drone Operation Description: Skill at controlling salvage drones. Bonus: drone range increased by 5,000 meters per skill level. Primary Attribute: Memory Secondary Attribute: Perception Training Time Multiplier: 1 x Primary Skill Required: Drones Level I

I agree, though increase the cargo cap of the drones by a factor of 10.
And render them unable to salvage from 'jetcans' (not that industrials support drones, but just to prevent grief).
Also, unflag them from the player so that loot thieves can have their drones blasted at will without CONCORD repurcussions.

Exactly.
The cans that they auto salvage should only be cans that are flagged for you and your gang.
NOTE that the system discussed here does not require a can to be targeted, but you could target a specific can and select Salvage.
The cargo of the drones should say small...they are designed for slow moving ships to pickup items that are spread out.
If you notice even the largest drone here has only a 25m3 cargo bay. These salvage drones don't even have enough room to pickup a Hammerhead drone (100m3) - this is by design.
Now these salvage drones COULD try to drag the loot can over?
I could see them moving a jet can at 1/2 their speed towards their owner if they can't carry everything...or report back to their ship like a cargo scanner and then have an option to:
Drag to me
What do you think?

Though I love the idea in concept I think the specs are off base in comparison to other drones. And the cargo capacity has some issues. I would propose 3 sizes of cargo/loot drones that match similiar drones already in market, since I have no idea on current drone speed I will forgo commenting.
Light Cargo Drone Cargo: 25 m3 Volume: 50 m3 Speed: 600 m/sec
Medium Cargo Drone Cargo: 50 m3 Volume: 100 m3 Speed: 500 m/sec
Heavy Cargo Drone Cargo: 100 m3 Volume: 250 m3 Speed: 375 m/sec
Hauler Cargo Drone Cargo: 250 m3 Volume: 500 m3 Speed: 275 m/sec

I originally created my corp and character base dupon salvage drones coming out, which is a very old idea and was being considered in BETA!!!
I am still annoyed they are not here.
It would reduce the lag considerably if all those cans were removed.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Agreed!
But a drone with a larger cargo bay should have less speed of course. Compare shuttles with Industrials.
Instead of troubleshooting with the size of the cargo bay... Let's have a basic drone carry 1 item, a standard 2 items, etc. (Where one pile of ammo would count as 1 item.) This would solve 'the unable to loot heavy drones' problem.
I agree with the countermeasures for loot thieves. However, i think that since deadspace missions, loot theft occurs less now.
The can should be locked to enable it for salvaging with drones! This is the least effort people should do to gather their loot.
It should unable to use Salvage Drones to drop items in jettisoned cans, making it unable for miners to use them to drop ore in secure containers ALL over the place!!
New proposition:
Basic Salvage Drone Can Carry: 1 item Volume: 50 m3 Speed: 600 m/sec
Salvage Drone - Standard Can Carry: 2 items Volume: 75 m3 Speed: 550 m/sec
Salvage Drone - Improved Can Carry: 3 items Volume: 100 m3 Speed: 500 m/sec
Salvage Drone - Advanced Can Carry: 4 items Volume: 125 m3 Speed: 450 m/sec
Salvage Drone - Elite Can Carry: 5 items Volume: 150m3 Speed: 400 m/sec

agreed!! looting al those scattered cans with a slow ship is a waste of time and makes the game booring. but indeed, the drones with a larger hold should be slower instead of faster
