The other day I saw a Wolf tucked nice and neatly up under the belly of a Typhoon like a predatory fish under a log waiting for a minnow to swim by... and an idea came to me.
Shield Expander (1x max installed) Low Slot module
What it does: Increases the area of a ship's shields by some ammount, enough so that a ship 1 size class smaller can be protected by the larger ship's shields. (i.e. a cruiser within a BS expander, frig within cruiser shield, ect). But only when the smaller ship is within 50 meters of the protecting vessel.
This will allow logistics & EW cruisers a place of refuge during intense battles so they are not so rapidly picked off. It will give interceptors and anti-frig frigates the same refuge until they run out to fulfill their fleet engagement role.
The shepherd ship provides shields, and whatever shield mods that it is supporting, to the 'sheep' under its expanded shield cover while increasing its signature by 15%.
While under the larger ship's shield arc the 'sheep' drops off the overview (it is lost within the other ship's sig radius), but it can still be visually targeted (i.e. ctrl-rt-click on the ship in space if the pilot can actually see it). Once it leaves the cover of the protecting ship it immediately reappears on the overview. If it targets another vessel that ship will see it as a threat icon on their main HUD (and if they have a free target slot their autotargeter will pick it up) even while it is under 'cover'.
Just a thought to make fleet battles a little more chaotic than they already are... and actually give logistics & EW ships some sort of survivability beyond the first salvo.

i like it, but what would happen to the smaller ship's sheild?
i think that it should only be forward facing, and all of the larger ship's shield is transfered, creating a wall in one direction, but leaving them open to attack from behind.
missles wouldnt steer around. ____________________

THe smaller ship's shiled would be unaffected. Once the larger ship looses its shield the smaller still has its own. Likewise when the smaller ship leaves 'cover'. |

Shield tools are normaly mid slot so get a Raven with an extra slot... Heck why do we even need extra slots. technically if you look at the globe created by shield ahrdners you could fit a ceptor inside that easily???
Very good idea. -- --
