I think EVE devs should add comets that orbit around systems... traveling slow enough that a miner could approach it, get close enough to mine and keep up with it (if the miner is fast enough)... while mining some vauluble ore... WEEE!!!!!

I dont think the servers got enough cpu power to handle moving celestial objects... wasnt this in another thread before?

Not sure if it was here before.. Comets should only be the size or a little larger than the smallest of astroids... like a large ship...I moved this to the DEV thread... sorry for puttin it here..

Servers can handle an extra 1 moving object. The plan was to have random comets appear in random systems. It would be just 1 big comet per system, so it's not a strain on the servers.
They probably scrapped the idea cause it's not worth the effort, as bugs and ship balance takes priority. Also, there are some design comlecations, like how to allow very slow moving miners to follow a comet, and that a moving miner can't use eject cans. Oh, and how to deal with situations when someone gets in the path of a comet, or ejects a can in comet's path. And also a problem of how to let people know where the comet is, since standard beacon wouldn't work for moving objects. In summery, too much hassle

No no no, didn't you know that server load is directly proportional to the size of an object?!?! A big comet will put much more load on the server than a few ships or asteroids in a belt. I thougth everyone knew that! --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |
