We now have this super highway connecting all of the empire regions together to help the slow people travel around the regions extremely quickly.
However, i can see one big problem with the highway system, proper roleplay.
You are a minmatar, you and your entire society hate the amarrians and everything they stand for, they have slaughtered your friends and family, their soldiers raped your father and your brothers and after all that, you have a nice new shiny gate going straight into amarr space and vice versa.
With in a few jumps i.e. 4 minutes, the biggest amarrian invasion fleet could go from the amarrian homeworld to pator with ease... The highways were a good idea but with flaws, would bitter enemies really want them only a few minutes away? Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

The current diplomatical situation has been described as "uneasy peace" - the empires pretty much hate each other, but they know war wouldn't be a good course of action. Hence co-ops like CONCORD. _______

Concord is a security force setup by the 4 empires to ensure that peace prevails, the highway system is a jumpgate from homeworld to homeworld allowing an amarrian fleet to jump into pator before the minmatar fleet could actually undock let alone concord intervene. An uneasy peace is still peace.
As an aside, I'd love to see the highway gates restricted to people who have a certain prerequisite security status before they can be used. This way, the galaxy will still seem large and expansive to the newer players, and more seasoned players will have the privledge of moving greater distances in less time (as it takes a while to raise security status). The big galaxy is fun and awe inspiring when you are new, and somewhat annoying as you get older, so this would work out well.
Plus, it would fit in well with the role-playing aspect of CONCORD. Why would the let anyone through such important gates? Restricting them to people who have demonstrated they abide by CONCORD's law seems to fit in quite well to me.
Okay, let the groans and whining begin for me voicing my opinion, but keep in mind, it IS just my opinion, okay? |

Cymoril, i think that is a great idea. Restrict the gates to people with a positive standing with concord and/or with the empire that the gate resides in/destination.

Oh who cares.
I really don't give a damn if you're Caldari or Mon Calamari, Amarrian or American, Minmitar or a goddamn Ewok. The NPC fictional backstory is silly. Eve is about players, and gameplay should be CCP's main concern, not roleplay. Gameplay is what these gates address. ___________________________________________

Setec, roll playing is an important aspect to a lot of us and should not be taken lightly.
But I do remember in the patch logs that the highway is hub'ed at CONCORD's HQ meaning that all users who want to use it have to go through the hub and thus through heavily fortified concord space. Also they are saying that in the mean while they are working out the bugs the highway is going to be free. This gives me the impression that this highway is in fact a toll road. And is merely free for the moment so that they are not swamped with complaints about users who paid the fee and where not able to use the highway.

Setec, roleplaying is all part of the game, gameplay comes from roleplay, hence the name "massive multiplayer online roleplaying game" :).
I didn't know it went through the concord headquarters, i just knew that within a few jumps, i had got from one side of the empire universe to the otherside of the empire universe in a few moments. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

MMORPGs have nothing to do with RP. Yes, they do need a backstory to explain the basics of gameplay, but all RP really means in real terms is 'character building' which again has nothing to do with 'role-playing'. No MMORPG to date has sufficiently reinforced it's backstory with gameplay mechanics such that RP is actually a part of the game for it's playerbase, beyond those who go out of their way to accomidate it.
Unfortunately this is also the case in EVE. There are different races with simi-unique identities and historical significance, but in gameplay terms all that means is a slight difference in stats, skills and location, which can all be changed later on. So essentially racial identity is absolutely meaningless beyond what each individual player wants to read into it.

If you think about it if something like this was going to be set up in the real world then the gates themselves in the Concord HQ area would most likely be fitted with self destruct devices which if an invasion fleet were to enter the area then they would be automatically set of to prevent the gates being used for military advantage (and the empires would know this)
IRL this was actully done during the cold war and a lot of tactical river bridges and crossings which would have been used to invade europe / russia actully had nukes / conventional explosives stationed at them so in the event of the cold war these would be set off in order to stop the advance of invading armys however the crossigs were still used daily by people during peace time so the ideas not exactly new :) BSC, Chief Tactical Officer

I like roleplaying, and so do others. But not everyone, and no one should have to RP. Sometimes roleplayers have to sacrifice some things to non roleplayers and the other way around. That's just the way it is. :)

I also role play a bit myself. I have in the past, "accidently" fired on Amarr players while hunting NPC pirates for instance.
There are several Amarr in my corp now and I stay away from them and in general show a grudging tolerance for them.
They all know it's RP and go with it. As long as I don't actully POD them that is.
