Greetings,
one month on from the disbanding of the alliance known as JQA, KelThuzad and myself are finally ready to release our first serious attempt at an Eve movie (so be gentle!):
A Look Back (46.3MB zipped WMV, right-click Save As)
This was originally going to be an Unforgivn recruitment vid with Kel and I (we are flatmates IRL) collecting random footage of everyday activities whenever we remembered to. But then of course, things went a little - shall we say - pear-shaped for the alliance, so what had been captured up to that point was reworked into what's now on offer.
TBH, Kel was the one who took the time to learn how to use Adobe Premiere with this one - I was just the guy standing over his shoulder, telling him to tweak this and adjust that. You won't see an excess of ganks to the tune of some death-metal cacophany here, rather, this vid is simply as its title suggests: a look back.
It's only once you try and make something like this that you can really get a fuller understanding for how much time and effort goes into the making of any Eve movie. Both of us learned a hell of a lot from this process and have come out of it with a much deeper respect for all those whose works feature in this forum. WE SALUTE YOU!
And of course to everyone else, thank you for taking the time to watch. Cheers.
/Ben

Okay, I have never seen someone more in need of a full version of FRAPs. Ben, that was very good! The visuals were excellent and the narrative kept me interested. Granted, it was a short vid, but you managed to convey a lot of feeling and emotion in it.
To everyone looking to make a vid, pay attention to how this was done. Story and music really matter and this effort uses both to great effect.
Good work, Ben and Kel. Don't stop here. -

This is a suberb movie(wish it was a bit longer ) but it still saddens me, as it reminds me how hard it was to leave this once small but great alliance. ------------------------- These are my views and don't necessarily represent my corp nor my alliance. |

If I have ever seen anyone who should get the full version of FRAPS it is you guys! Omg! This was bloody brilliant!
If I'm reading your post correctly this was your first video? If so...
Good choice of music and the editing to it was simply amazing! I very much look forward seeing more work from you!
Good job!!
//Leafo
Btw, a friendly hint. If you continue to use the demo version of FRAPS, you could just resize the clips a little bit in Premiere so that the URL gets off screen.

That really was good
Nothing else needs saying on it really, it was quite short but it didn't really need to be any longer, and like everyone else has said, if anyone needs to invest in the full verison of fraps is you guys.
I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future! ----------------

A fitting tribute/epitaph to the JQA.

And that has NO relevent with this video. He's quoting what our trim member said officially in the end when decision was taken to disband. Supremacy is in no way a part of this video, so you might want to stop trying to change what this video stands for, the small but once great alliance JQA. ------------------------- These are my views and don't necessarily represent my corp nor my alliance. |

Thank you, everyone for your views and thoughts about this movie. The last few days prior to its release were very long for myself and Ben, sometimes going into the early hours of the morning. I never thought I'd get this many responses to my first movie, let alone a post from both Seleene and Leafo. You guys are great! The movies that I've seen from both of you have all been amazing, and I would highly recommend their veiwing.
The posts that have been posted here have motivated me enough to look into making another movie, though I have no idea what it will be about at this time. I have already got the full version of Fraps so no more URL at the top of the screen anymore.

I'm not trying to diss the vid, it's good. But maybe it should be called fiction then? The relevance in my post is that the video shows JQA leaving under no pressure and leaving an empty area "ready for someone else to move in" or whatever the exact words were on it... My point was it was already taken by force and not empty for someone to move into.. That's all :) -----------------

I would just like to echo Kel's sentiments and thank you all again for your constructive criticism and encouragement.
Indeed, this is our very first Eve movie of any substance. The only thing Kel had done prior to this was a short "test" vid containing a single 30 second clip, just while he was getting the hang of things like adding basic text, and also to test some different encoding possibilities.
In addressing Obidios's concern, I would remind you that this end result is a far cry from what we had originally intended to make, which was a corp recruitment vid. It was only during the invasion period that we gathered any combat scenes at all, such was the lack of regular commitment we were giving to this project.
If you want to be specific, SUPRM pilots are in fact seen in two places. The 2v2 scene (SUPRM assault frig & R-K inty vs JQA kestrel & inty) shows Airpizza and Zorlondre exploding simultaneously - Namelesz survived.
Later, a large frig squad is shown swarming over a lone SUPRM Tempest in S-U, which did eventually go down, but at the cost of about half a dozen JQA frigs following the arrival of enemy reinforcements mid-fight. Yes, it's a shame this wasn't all captured, but Kel's demo version of Fraps is more to blame for that than anything else.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there was no intention to deliberately hide SUPRM's involvement in JQA's downfall with this vid - we simply wanted to make use of what we had captured up to that point, as best we could. Remember, if SUPRM and friends hadn't invaded, we'd all be talking about a very different vid right now.
So there's your involvement, even if it isn't spelt out so explicitly in the vid itself. If that's still not enough, well, you're always free to make a SUPRM victory movie of your own if you like.

Fantastic use of music, the score from Matrix Revolutions - and the careful timing of it - add a massive amount of power to the battle scene. They were perhaps the most exciting I've seen in an EVE film - well done!
