Hello all. I work at Best Buy and a customer of mine had talked to me about this game today and has got me interested in
checking the game out. I'm very excited and can't wait to see what awaits me in this adventure. I have years of experience in
other mmo's Lineage 2 FF11/14 WoW GW/2 and many others and have never seen anything like this, so of course I feel
completely lost in what I'm doing, trying hard to get a grasp on it even with the tutorial and am now here in the forums seeking
help from a real person. If there is anyone that could help me maybe through ventrilo, mumble, teamspeak etc. I'm ready and
willing to take any steps to get this going right.
Thank You. |

I'd be willing to help as well. Keep in mind that I'm a bit biased towards PVP and nullsec though. I know that part of the game isn't for everyone. |

One server but don't be put off, it's one of EvE's greatest features.
Keep your voice down about the PvP or you get 50 l33t PvPers in here yelling "eve is all peeveepee man"
Theres plenty going on for pilots who dont want to kill other pilots, much less but still plenty :D
EDIT - Oh yeah i'll be happy to log into voice and have a chat when we're both online. Welcome aboard this harsh but fun ride!
Things will be confusing at first, but stick with it and it will come together soon enough.
One of the best things about EVE is that there are no shards / separate servers, everyone interacts in one big world. It's awesome. |

Learning the basics is the hardest thing in this game. I would suggest looking up someone from eve university for in game help. They are a great corp for newbies and can really help you learn the ropes. If you are looking for more a pvp experience there are a few newbie options. Red VS Blue is a high sec corps that can give you a good start. Once you learn the basics this game isnt that bad to play. Steep learning curve but not bad after playing for a month you will have a pretty good understanding of how to play. |

Just the one server. Everyone plays together, so whatever you do stays with you.
If you want a manual, the nearest thing available is this, and it's actually very good: http://www.isktheguide.com/
It's OK not to be interested in fighting other players, but always be aware that other players may well be interested in fighting you. In hi-sec, there is a cost to aggress another player, but it is absolutely allowed and the GMs will not reimburse or refund you if it happens. Hi-sec is NOT a "safe zone". It's generally safer than other areas of the map but you can and will be attacked if you make it sufficiently worth another player's while.
The good news is that it's rare for a new player to be able to do so.
There are lots of viable non-combatPvP player professions in EVE, but always be aware that they're all "PvP" in the sense that you'll be competing with or against other player. Even if all you want to do is sit in an asteroid belt and quietly mine rocks, note that the number of those rocks is limited, and other people may want to mine them too.

As far as PvP is concerned...
if you really don't enjoy ship on ship combat, my advice would be to stay in "high-sec" (security rating 1.0 to 0.5... you can see this next to the system name in the upper left-hand corner). Once you go into low-sec (0.4 to 0.1 space) and "null-sec" (0.0 to -1.0 space) the only "rules" are those you can enforce yourself.
HOWEVER... be aware that "high-sec" stands for "high security" and not "total security." People CAN attack you either in the form of War Declarations (people can declare war on anyone else for any reason no matter how big, small, strong, or weak they are) and "suicide ganks" (people ganking another ship before the NPCs can gank theirs).
The trick to avoiding these sorts of things lies in: - keeping your head "low" - not pissing off people (or even looking at them funny) - not carrying enough stuff in your ship to make a "suicide gank" profitable (the general consensus is not to carry more than the value of the ship itself) - tanking your ships to withstand a volley or three from an incoming ship (i.e. beefing up your HP and resistances, not actively repairing) - joining up with people who can train, protect, and work with you (i.e. not people who will "bleet" like sheep and hide). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Welcome to Eve, it can be harsh but very rewarding.
As others have said, we all play on a single server, everything you do has the potential to affect every player in the game. 99% of the content is produced by players not the devs, the market consists of 99% player supplied goods and is capitalism run wild, most of what is banned in other MMO's is fine here, CCP basically gave us a sandbox with very few rules and said here you go, get on with it.
Last but not least, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum -á-á-á ---CCP can't patch stupid--- |

First tip: don't copy/paste from whatever you copy/pasted from: all those extraneous line breaks make it very hard to read what you wrote.
Second: check out the Day 0 advice for new players thread, it has links to videos and articles that will help you get started and wrap your brain around the game.
Third: as mentioned in that thread I linked, take the personality analyser and use the results to talk to people in your rookie corp and the Help channel about what activities would be interesting to you based on that personality type. It's not a Scientology Personality Profile or a Meyers Briggs Personality Inventory, the EVE Personality Test is just a simple, light-hearted handful of questions intended to help you crystallise your thinking and launch you on a meaningful career in EVE as quickly as possible.
Fourth: Have fun, trust no-one, make friends! Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |

It would be good to mention at what times you're actively playing. Even better if you used EVE-Time, which is the same as GMT. Your timezone and if you're playing in the afternoon or late at night would be a start tho. |

Welcome to EVE, do not rush into ships, do not ignore your core skills, if it seems like to good of a deal, that is because it is, as was said, in game trust no one!!! Very harsh but fun gaming world, look into all parts before you decide you do not like something, you might be suprised at what you like here. |
