Well my corp is having a frig tourny and I am undecided on what shiup I should use. My current Idea is to go for a Merlin and kit out with Rails, One standard Launcher with bloodclaws One rocket with defenders (I'm bound to have to take on a kessie at one point of another and that whould cut down some of the missiles Im bound to face). I don't know what to put in the med or low slots yet though.
I fancy doing this set up as it is unexpected as people will expect me to use a minnie frig probably a rifter.
Any ideas Would be greatly Apreciated.

Something like the vigil or tristan...

Edited by: Hast on 20/03/2005 11:43:46 take a punisher and tank it =) then you fit some dual light pulses or some medium pulses on it... I havent got a setup now but just fool around with that

Thanks For the quick response.
I could probably Make a tristan work with the set up I have On the merlin, but It would meen I wouldn't have that good EW options but then again I don't think anyone would expect me to use a tristan.

The thing is, the drones can deal out a surprising amount of damage. Combine that with any turrets and you're in business.
Alternatively, it shouldn't be too hard to get moving at 2km/s+ in a vigil.

how about this? 1 imicus plus loads of sensor boosting, and a fleet of light drones (it can hold 5!) ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last resort of the incompetent". ---------------------------------------------- |

I used a merlin in my corps frig comp and it was unbeatable. using 2 150 II rails . it had a optimal of 50k.. and as my corp comp had a startin distance of 40km it could out range all of the ships i faced. though if ur startin at 20km i would say a puni with 3 med pulse fitted with radios. fit a little armor tank and u'll do fine

Since traditional frig tourneys are one on one remote sensor damps are a good bet, damn useful against kessies as they don't have the speed to get close enough to lock. Not great if it's a team event though as i found out a few weeks ago.

I'd go with a Kessie.
4 standard launchers MWD Ballsitic Control
Fit the other slots to your will
When you get the go, mwd towards your target launching missiles as soon as you have lock.
Missiles will stack up and probably have annihilated your opponent by the time you reach them.

Dampening vigils are very good for 1vs1, the only real problem is that it takes a lot to take down a tanked punisher with 2x280mm 1xLauncher and 2xWarrior drones. The last time I tried it was before the projectile fix, so it might be easier now.

Apparently thats an exploit now... but perhaps only if it is reported.
I'd never go short range in a tournament, its too risky. Thats all I have to say, besides the fact that speed is your god in a tournament.

Try a imicus with a MWD and orbit at 10km with 2 125's and pound away, dont forget about the drones

If you have a MWD on, not a single missile will hit you if you stay away from webrange.
Some people have grown respect for the Merlin even in all tech II frig squads, because of it's great powergrid (35), CPU (150) and sturdiness:
2 x 150mm + 2 x light launchers (one EM, the other Explo) 1 x MWD + 2 dampeners 1 x mag stab + 1 x cap relay
Run away as soon as the fight begins, and your opponent will be toast before he reaches his optimal because you will deal all 4 damage types.

Edited by: Miner''s Bane on 21/03/2005 04:58:09 If you dont need to scramble, try:
Rifter
3x 250mm Artillery 1x Std Launcher
1x MWD 1x Tracking Computer
2x Cap Power Relay
Load up on long-ranged ammo and plink from 20k. Boring, but effective. ------------------------------------------------------------------
