Alright, so I am brand new to the game. 15 days in and I have 40m ISK ( I would've had more but spent a lot on a thorax which I just lost last night due to unknown reasons, I logged out all safe in station - I was in the middle of a mission but I had warped out to do repairs and I just ended up calling it a night, when I returned the next morning - I was in a capsule in the middle of nowhere with 7m extra cash in my wallet -.- ).
Anyways - I decided to buy a battlecruiser simply because I just want a bigger ship. (Yes I know it seems like ******** logic going from "hey I just lost an expensive ship" to "well screw it i'm going to buy an even more expensive ship" but I love the brutix). I thought that buying a battlecruiser would make the game easier - yes all the stuff on the ship would be tear 1 stuff and low level weapons. But I really just want a good ship that I can use to plow through agents quick enough so that I can get either a myrmidon or Talos. (No I will NOT be doing pvp any time soon - just pve, just fyi).
My question is - Should I keep the Brutix and just grind some L3's for money and buy a myrmidon? or go back to the thorax, grind L2's and then get a myrmidon?

1.) apparantly you didn't log off while docked, but in space and in a place where people/rats shot you.
2.) Link your fits, it can help if we see what you are using to give you our advice to stick to L3 with BC or L2 with cruiser. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. I had strarted out as a miner and trader, so when I went to missioning I had the isk to go right to a BC and skip cruisers. Since both used medium sized gear the only real cost difference was the hull. It worked for me, but to be honest I am not sure I would do it that way again if I had to repeat it. As I said, the cost difference was only the hull (and rebuying rigs if used) but the BC was slower and some L2 missions I had to pass on due to size restrictions. If you happen to be slavaging with the same ship the speed of the BC will hurt you tijme-wise (get a destroyer to salvage). If you stay in a cruiser you can always quickly sell it for a small loss when you go to the BC.
As for your warp out death, did you just hit 'dock' and walk away from the keyboard or did you actually see your ship dock in the station? If you were warp scrambled you wouldn't have left the mission are and you would have been blown up. If I tried to make a type of coffee that made all of you happy, and you rated it, the group score for it would be about 60 out of 100. Break into 3 or 4 coffee clusters, and made coffee just for each cluster, the scores would go from 60 to 78. The difference between coffee at 60 and coffee at 78 is a difference between coffee that makes you wince or makes you happy. |

Many of us, who start out in this game have been conditioned by other games that bigger means better. In EvE this is not always so. That being said, Battlecruisers (BC) are a very solid ship class, capable of doing a wide variety of things. More importantly, due to their "beefy" nature, they are quite forgiving to low Skill Points (SP) pilots. Additionally, right now there are no racial Battlecruisers, so one skill fits all! I would definately take advantage of this situation and get that skill to at least 4 (better 5).
Most battlecruisers, even in T1 fits will make short work of level 3 missions. Still, it always is a good idea to look up the mission description and know what hardeners you need and what the spawn triggers are. Knowing which damage type the rats have low resists in will also make a big difference.
This is a pretty solid Myrmidion fit:

I would stay away from the talos as its intent is as a glass cannon hit and run boat for pvp, you will find that it dies easy with its cruiser sized tank and has a much more difficult time hitting targets as it uses battleship sized guns.
If your capable of surviving in the lvl 3s in your brutix and can complete them in a reasonable amount of time then go for it, if your unsure link your fits and we will destroy your confidence in your fitting know how and tell you how to build them better |

Open your character sheet in the Neocom, go to the Combat Log tab, and click show losses. That should show you how you died. Right clicking will give you more detailed info. |

In a month or two, you will laugh at that amount of loss. It's maybe 1-2 hours of level 4 high sec missions at most. Just keep plugging away and consider it a learning adventure. |

The general progression is: level 1 - Frigs/Destroyers Level 2 - Cruisers Level 3 - battlecruisers Level 4 - battleships/Strategic Cruisers Level 5 - Groups and/or caps
There's no harm in using a more powerful ship in a lower level mission as long as you can equip it with weapons that hit smaller targets, but you definitely don't want to use a smaller ship like a destroyer in a harder mission or it will go pop.

Talos is primarily a PvP ship, they don't last long in missions, they have next to nil tank and the guns have trouble hitting things like frigates and cruisers. That said, they look cool as hell
The drake is the jack of all trades, mediocre dps if you fit for tank but oh boy can it tank (like a mofo) but as others have said it's main weapons are getting changed when retribution hits.

Being focused primarily on Amarr ships my progression has been Punisher(frigate), Arbitrator(cruiser), Harbinger(Battlecruiser) . The Punisher worked out well for level 1 missions but I needed more damage for level 2 that's when I decided to focus on my drone skills and move into an Arbitrator. At this point I was happy with my damage output and kill speed but my tank was lacking, jumping straight into a battlecruiser even with low skill points and empty module slots due to fitting issues gave significantly more tank and greater dps (this may not be the case with every ship). I've just got enough standing to start running level 3 missions where things are going to get somewhat annoying due to range issues.Onward to Tech2 Weaponry!
I hear nothing but great things about the myrmidon... I'd go for the Battlecruiser even if you have to stick with level 2 missions, hell try 3's and see how you get on just stay aligned so you can warp if shtf. Keep in mind if you do go the battlecruiser route with large guns, drone skills will save your ass from those pesky frigates and serve you well while piloting the Myrmidon. It might not be whats recommended but it's working for me. |

^^ good advice, if you're going for a Mrym you'll definitely need those drone skills, also the Myrm has no gun bonuses so you can fit whatever you like in the high slots. It'll be medium guns though, only the Talos can fit large.
It's a very versatile ship, don't be afraid to experiment with the fit, it's primarily an armour tanker but also works well with shields if you're that way inclined (don't try it if you have no/low shield skills which is quite likely if you mainly fly Gallente) Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum -á-á-á ---CCP can't patch stupid--- |

Ships are just tools. Don't get attached to them. You will lose a lot more.

But did you actually see your ship inside station? Docking takes up to 10 seconds, sometimes it's instant, sometimes "towing" is slow as snail. Anyway, whatever happened it's good that you didn't rage like some tend to do, you should be fine.
I'm Minmatar and brutix/myrm are not my kind of ships so no advice on that from me but myrm seems to be great ship from what I read/hear about it.
I can repeat what others said before: you will lose ships, accept it now and your Eve life will get better. Ships are tools for a job and you shouldn't get attached to them. No matter what you do, be that exploration, mining, missions, pvp, hauling - sooner or later your ship will explode, that's just the way of Eve. You can minimize chance of it happen but you can never fully prevent it in the long run.
As for finances 22mil loss is easily replaceable once you get into L4 missions. Quite a few of them have this amount in bounties alone, quite often you can get similar amount from salvage and loot. For example L4s got me 300mil during last month and I really not grind them at all, just casual few hours few times per week/weekend in my T2 fitted maelstrom. And I use faction ammo, and don't cash in my LPs in very efficient way, and don't do a lot of things "serious" missioners do. So no worry, you will get there.
And most of all have fun, it's the only thing that you cannot buy with ISK :) I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Sometimes I also get glitches ingame where it kinda 'desyncs' with the server. It usually starts with an armor repairer or and afterburner not turning off/on. I also would sometimes cannot recall my drones back, and the first thing I do whenever I get that nowadays is to dock > logout.
Last time I did this I was in a system with no stations and after logging back in I find my ship (with all my drones intact) on the stargate before the jump to the system with the station (that i've docked and logout from). I dunno how to explain it rather than that - a desync. |

If you are desynced you cannot session change, so there is no way it should ever show you actually docking in a station/jumping through a gate then change its mind (unlike the act of warping for example where a desync can show you warping then warping again or have you back where you started). Instead it will do nothing (sit clicking jump for 10 minutes) or give you some message and or CTD. |

I was using the brutix for a long time to grind to lvl 3 missions.
with a good fit and proper hardeners you can do any lvl 3 with ease. ( can t give fit now as i m not home so if you need a good fit send me a mail ingame and i will give mine ).
For the myrmidon you should first train more drone skills as this is a drone ship. ( not used it myself so can t tell much of its preformance).
At first I suggest you make a destroyer into a salvager to salvage your missions for extra isk once you start with lvl 3( and go for a noctis later which is much much faster at salvaging ).
I think you can fit a brutix for about 80mil ( including the hull). |

Personally, I prefer using Tech2 frigates for level 3 missions. Assault ships are so much faster than cruisers and in my opinion tank better than poorly equipped cruisers. Only problem I had was when I ran into a battleship. I could not do enough DPS to kill it, but BS could not hit me at all so I finished my mission and got out. |
