Had a talk with one of the teams, that wanted to take part in New Eden Open, who is looking a sponsor. They are offering : If I give them some of the PLEX for them to be able to take part in the tourney, I will get 50% of the winnings...
The question is this RMT ? |

You think there aren't bigger fish out there doing the exact same thing? This open tournament is going to be a pathetic, rigged waste of time and effectively just a way of turning PLEX back into $ for whoever will accept the lowest rate of exchange. |

Obligatory IANAL.
Friends don't let friends agree to verbal contracts.
Seriously, all RMT questions aside get a lawyer to write up a short contract for you that clarifies the terms of your agreement and who contributes exactly what to the deal (and that makes it clear that providing virtual items is a valuable RL service on your part).
50% of the winnings means you might get as much $3,000 while the 8-24 players in the actual team would get $125 - $375 each in case of a first place finish.
It is easy to give away money you don't have but - friends or no friends - there is a very real possibility that remorse would set in once it becomes clear that you might get 10 or 20 times as much (for having provided some make-believe space bucks) as those players get who had to spend countless hours theorycrafting, preparing and playing the actual tournament.
(Also don't even think about doing this if parts of your team live in other jurisdictions than you do)

The easiest way to insure its not RMT is to place one of your pilots on the team. Any team is permitted to divide up the winnings between their own members as they see fit.

Is there a secure way to donate ISK to a team? That is, how do you know they'll spend it on actually registering to play rather than on booze and Rifters?

sounds more like another scam to me. always nice when CCP advertises something, and people can immediately figure out a scam to go along with it.
