I agree 100%, this game and the devotion CCP has put towards it is a shining example imo of what daring, talented development is. So many games have been screwed up by poor development decisions, and many more just flopped right out of the box because the devs didn't know what they were doing, or were relying too heavily on a simple license. CCP took risks, and risks and diversity pays off in the world of Everclone MMOs. Three favorite MMOs: Asheron's Call (first MMO I've ever played, introduced me to the genre, will probably always be my favorite b/c of the sentimental value), EVE (most complex and best designed MMO I've ever played, truely mind boggling - I love explaining the intricacies to people), and WWII:Online (Also a fantastic game). I've also played EQ, DAOC, SWG, WOW, and all the rest for a little while, but ultimately those three in my opinion deviated the most from the beaten path. AC had a complex skill system and did away with the tried/overkilled gnome, elf, whatever. EVE is totally unlike any game in existence both in feature set and execution, and WWIIOnline, again... took on the unbelievable challenge of recreating the biggest confrontation mankind has seen, and bringing it to a virtual battlefield quite successfully (although it took them a year to fine tune it).
My point is that creativity pays dividends, I think CCP devs should wake up every single morning, smell the fresh air, and pat themselves on the back, because I think they've accomplished something only a select elite has, in creating such an incredible game.

Of course EVE is still the best game. In fact it is not so much a game as a lifestyle. I'm on a WOW brake at the moment but in a month or so I will most definitely be returning. EVE is reality, everything else is just a temporary distraction.

I second that. EVE is the only game ( after elite on my c64 ) that i have played for longer that 3 months and still enjoy.
I know an Islandic guy who was there when our brave DEV's set out on creating this pearl of gaming. ( after some prolongued session in some Iselandic pub I assume :) )You done a great job guys. Respect. ~2 years ingame now and will grow old in Tranquility for sure.

When I originally tried Eve (got the client from PC Gamer coverdisk as downloading on 56k at the time would be too much), I got into it and liked it. However I was playing another mmorpg (Lineage II) full time, so I used Eve as a backup, chillout game. At first I only spent a few hours here and there, but as time went on I ended up spending more time on Eve than my main mmorpg..
Fourish months later and I've cancelled my lineage II account and am addicted to Eve \o/

/me agrees.
Played WoW for a month, and the endless grinding, and non-intriguing story-line, and non-consentual PvP is boring as hell after eve. Nothing for me in that, so probably nothing for me in EverQuest or of the other Ferry-dancing games.
Keep up the good work! ___________________________________________

Coming from a MMORPG which pressed my 'buttons' very much (Earth & Beyond), which was unduly scratched by beancounters, who removed the DEV-Base of the Game (to Ultima ... sigh) and were wondering why they were _just_ positive, I was very very reluctant to follow some of my friends to EVE... and WOUZA... it pressed even more Buttons for me than E&B... This game is the fullfillment of dreams I had YEARS AGO, playing ELITE (all of them), thinking about variety, freedom, interaction and 'the feeling of reality'.
Being on the cutting edge of current programming and equipment possibility, being at ONE servercluster with more than 10000 people, people who are absolutely free in the things they are doing; and coming from this line of work myself; is simply breathtaking. That a company takes the risk to do this, is more than commendable.
That there are problems also involved, well, IMHO it's a small price to pay to be REALLY on the EDGE, be able to see the wonderous things freeflying imagination can do....
KEEP IT ON, CCP... T. |

I bought WoW the day it came out cause I wanted to try something different. That account is now cancelled because even though I've been playing eve since sept 03 I did not find the time to play WoW because I was playing EVE too much, I also took a Lineage 2 break when that was in open beta. I like to try the new games coming out, but EVE pretty much has me hooked. Of course I'm kind of forced to play EVE for another 11 months cause I got a new expiration date on my credit card and went ahead and just paid for the whole year lol.

I agree, its a very good game, highly addictive and probably a PLOT by the Icelandic Government to undermine productivity in Europe and the U.S.
They are EBIL! The complaints about the game are complaints about a grade A game that we all wish was an A+++.
But that's no excuse not to fix things and make them better. |

Originally by: Soren yeah, I'd say no competition has been a bad thing, CCP have all the time they want to make changes and can just mosy along.
If only SOE had gotten its act together and kept SWG in beta longer, it would have been a serious contender to EVE. After the PvP balancing and JTLS (space expansion) SWG is now what it should have been at release.

EVE for me is a great pass time,
For me its the quality of player driven story lines (some of the greatest have been silenced on the forums unfortunatly).

While I have some serious issues with the way 0.0 is being handled, I still think this is the greatest game ever made. For that I have to thank CCP (or not because I have no life).
