Does anyone else think that circle is terrible?
It involves having to look at it twice as hard to see stats of shield armor and structure. I think the hit icon is worthless as you will probably still see the damage you are doing.(two hit notifications now?). In big fights most people turn brackets off to prevent their computer from melting.
As for changing the yellow and red boxes to circles it's a nice look, but the targets locked box is terrible.
Perhaps we should get a performance increase in the brackets system before we try to add new stuff to it |

Read the blog comments. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=161963 They are well aware hull, shield, armor, needs to be more easily identified. These images are mockups and are in flux. |

No it's not terrible, it's different and by far more intuitive and informative than actual one. Provides new important information unavailable until now, this is awesome change, awesome stuff me wants more. brb |

It is different.
It is a horrible waste of development time.
Its utterly useless and not necessary.

What does it do that the current version doesn't? Except show up in your "cross hairs" on the UI? It shows you the Shield/Armor/Structure amount of your locked and/or selected target. It just looks different. its round instead of 3 bars.
I dont see how the current version is hard to understand. You target someone, they show up on your screen with shield/armor/hull right under their picture in 3 bars. YOu hover your mouse over the bars and it tells you the %. I don't get what is hard to understand about the current version that it is necessary to take up more space on the screen and take up more dev time.
again. WASTE. OF. TIME.

You don't have to show cross hairs after more than now.
New information displayed inside the target box is awesome
It's a very nice revamp of an old element of UI still looking like stuff from 80's console games, wise time invested in recoding and for further changes.
Different opinion. brb |

In space the locked box in the ship is bigger, takes up more room and will make it harder to click other targets.
It's a circle showing 3 different stats. You have to now scan your eye all over the locked box just to see where its at as oppose to the current system. It shows nothing different, but makes it harder to read |

I dont see how turning the S/A/H indicator from 3 bars into a circle adds any new information

maybe i missed it. Where is the "new information in the target box"? There is nothing new there, they just changed the shape of the status bars.

Its better read from the blog and not some image as it cant be easily shown.
Quote: When they start aggressing, the 'yellow box' will turn red (but it will still be pretty subtle). However, as the hits start coming in, a new 'hit icon' will flash around the bracket, one for each hit from that pilot. The opacity of the icon will be determined by the damage of the hit. If they are shooting at you with a weapon that has short cycle time but each shot doesn't deal much damage, you will see many faint hit icons, very rapidly. If they're shooting you with something that really, really hurts, the hit icons will be very strong when they flash but you might not see them as often if the cycle time of their modules is rather long.
We have not yet come up with an exact calculation method for the opacity of the hit icon but we are working from this right now:
opacity = hitHP / (ourShieldHP + ourArmorHP) * magic
And they have been reading requests from the comment thread about more e-war info shown though targeting. |

Defiantly do not want to lose the time to lock something. This is one of those changes that I don't even think we need. Improve brackets or anything else in the game before you try to fix something that isn't broken and that no one is complaining about. |

I understand the brackets will have some upgrades. What I am questioning is the reasoning behind the circular S/A/H indicators and why they are getting rid of the timer that tells you how long until your target is locked.

Yes, They are a grey bar going in a circle (like a module) is not a good substitute for a timer with digits

So is the lock timer still gonna be in number form under the target or a progress circle around the target?
And honestly, what is the point in having a S/A/H indicator around the target in space and also around the target icon on top of the screen? If the SAR indicator is shown only around one selected ship in space, we get that same info for all the locked targets on top of the screen. Nobody will cycle targets in space to check their status when all info is already shown elsewhere. |

Not because it's obviously more clear but because they want change for changes sake. The old circles were pretty mangled. Specially when you couldn't adjust UI scale like you can now. Circles are easier to differentiate I feel in a cluster when it comes to targeting. Same with target time as We have been reading our module time in the same fashion for a long time now. Though they should still show the actual time under the ship name. And it makes everything more unified (they like that word). I am however on the fence with the S/A/H targeted group. Or how it plays into their ideas from fanfest. depends on how they color code it for me I guess. Or if they adjust the overall circle like so shield and armor are top half sharing the same arc and the all important hull is the lower half, I don't know. Maybe if they would just keep the circular targeted, yet you can choose between wrap or flat S/A/H |

Aesthetically, clean and consistent with recent UI additions. Yet more intrusive, and less informative.
Interested in how they will continue to develop this WIP.
