Edited by: KSUDruid on 25/03/2005 09:52:41 DDC Film #2: Attack on the UO POS
A Little Background Story for everyone: A Few months ago during the time Exodus was just rolling out, me and another Real Life friend of mine who plays EVE were partyin' at a Club, and heard a song called "Castles In the Sky" By Ian Van Dahl start to play. Being the typical EVE Junkies we are, we both looked at each other and said "Hey, that'd be a cool song to put an EVE movie of blowing up a POS too." After the alchohol and all the chicks of that night became a faded memory, the song and the idea remained.
Nearly Four months after the release of Exodus, we were finally given the oppurtunity to realize that idea when we heard that the POS of an Enemy in the area was offline. As I raced to the system in question to find out for sure, I had fraps running the whole time ready to capture the film of what would be my first attempt at making an EVE video.
Also of interest, In real life I'm a Disc Jockey for a rather well known mobile entertainment company, so I've used about software program out there for editing audio. However when the whole thing came up of editing video It was new territory. I'm hoping my creative instinct overoad my inexperience with the programs.
Anyhoo, enough babbling.

Hope Everyone enjoys, Constuctive Criticism is welcome and encouraged. The music is kinda paramount to the story, so if you don't like that part then my apologies :p. No Flames will be answered, so don't even bother.
Tada!

WTF? They turned RNF *red*?
Still, a good watch - there's a bit of a loss in detail when fading in and out, and the FPS was a bit low at times, but then it is a POS you're taking down after all.
Good work sticking at it for that long as well, given the numbers you had. The can left at the end made me laugh too.
Nice to see you got the hang of Premiere in the end, mate. Good work.

Ya we had problems with the FPS. Early on we had a lot more people and the lag was just horrendous. fraps was showing 0 FPS and the screen would update about every 5 seconds. That was without fraps recording. I normally run 40-50 FPS so that should give you an idea of how bad it was :)
Most of the video that I took was after the majority of the people passed out and even then I was lucky to get 15 FPS before I turned fraps on. When I hit the fraps button I'd drop to 5 or less. Only thing we were able to do to get rid of the lag was to just quit shooting the thing, lol -------------------

no offense guys, but where are times when people were proud of fighting with a larger more powerfull group,.... and not proud of killing defenseless and smaller weaker groups...
(eve pvp is really neat... the smaller group allways log off or run away, or hide in the station, and the bigger one just camps or attacks defensless POSes)
vid is fine... camera is ok, intro logos are used fine, and fonts are cooler then at most eve pc vids) (and well the good thing at it is that you dont get a chance every day to see a POS destroyed, youve given folks that choice... thats positive if you ask me)
i would do it to to an enemy but i dont think i would make promos from it hehe :)

Since you have no idea of what happened here's a small story. UO ****ed us off, we killed UO. The end.

Pretty cool movie. I like the attempt at actually telling a story. Providing us with the background info is a good way of making an effective peice of entertainment.
The movie also demonstrates how these Star Bases are not fun, and a rather pointless extersize for the PvP'ers. You would have been in trouble if just one defensive battery had been online ;) But nice job spotting it, AND getting enough people together to take it out. -- "I am an expert in not caring. Good story telling. Good job putting in the effort of taking it down! Now, for me the music is horrible, everytime someone says Ian and trance in the same sentance I get a rash (now, u didnt say that and are forgiven). Trance, yes. Ian, no.
Now despite the camera work the picture was crap. Totally. Im sorry, but for me it was, I could hardly make out what was being shown and top that off with that spinning... The strange thing was that sometimes for a very short moment the picture was clear, crips and very detailed and then it just fell out to 1x1cm pixels.
The still shots made everying clear though and was a nice touch and the can was funny!
Get that picture up to standards and you would be in business for sure!

I've noticed the picutre thing too, and I'm not really sure what to make of it either. I didn't really notice it right after rendering at 5AM last night, but now I'm actually awake and looking at it, I do definetly notice it as well. I'd be happy to hear any ideas you guys got.
And ya, as murphy said it was really.. REALLY laggy. We took fraps earlier when we had 20-30 ships beating on it but my computer started reading in seconds per frame instead of the other way around. Most of the footage you see is actually from last hour of the seige when most of the crew had passed out cause it was the best FPS any of us were getting.

Well...I was there and wish I wasnt. Not sure what the exact cause of lag was...the 500 secure cargo cans or the 1% BSs, but I only had about 1 frame every 3-5 minutes.
Guess i need a 10ghz computer with 30gb ram to get in on another POS killing :). |

From what I've read the material was very bad due to lag and I will not comment on that. I must say though that the whole thing was very well put together, good story telling and editing.

Thanks for the comments guys, getting a "Good story" from Leafo means a helluva lot to me.
I really think I could get into this movie making thing though, So I dropped a few hundred bucks on a screaming fast new mobo/processor a few days ago.. hopefully that'll assist in getting some of our cooler exploits (no pun intended) on film for more enjoyment.

Well, where to start?
The soundtrack was different. Not something I would want to put on an EVE vid, and I hope people take note and dont try to do it again.
The video quality was quite low, and is probably due to not having a high enough video bandwidth.
As for the content, I found myself skipping forward through the video just to get to something that wasnt trying to make me sea sick.
As a video of EVE action it is ok to show what its like to take down a POS, but please edit out the dull and monotonous bits to make it quick and to the point. Keep the visual waffle to a minimum.
I know its hard to decide what is needed and what isn't to convey the story, but please think long and hard next time. -

Is this dude like the Eve version of 'Simon' from American Idol or what?

Who says your taste in music is the overarching standard for what Eve vids should play in the background? Certainly not me - I liked the music.

tip/note: don't make videos at a resolution of 1024x768, eats too much resources or lets the computer die for the people who have weaker computers, like me.
