I just got the skills for the largest barge and I'm looking for some tips. I'm not in a corp 'cause I don't really play much. I used to do some mining into secure cans with my osprey in .4 systems (jaspet and kernite) and it was decent but nothing close to my trading business. So I'm wondering if I can do better with the barge. I would only have 4 heavy drones for protection. Where do you guys think I could mine as far as NPC rats go and also taking into consideration PC rats and territories controlled by player corps. I don't really wanna get blown up too fast ;p. Or maybe there's a corp out there I could consider joining for some from time-to-time profitable mining in lower sec? Thanks for info.

Hi, I mine with a friend "Noble One" all the time she's in a Apoc with 10 drones as protection. I use 8 or so Harvies. I found that useing drones as protection was awkward as the lock in distance didn't leave a lot of spare time, I could only lock at about 21-21km in the barge.
Solo is hard but not un do able in a 0.5 and above system, 0.4 and below can be awkward to say the least even with ship insurance.

Solo in the barge, especialy large barge is very profitable. I usualy mine 3 full jet cans then grab my hauler. I do propose that you stick to medium drones and increase their numbers when you can. Large drones tend to be a bit of let down when faced with a spawn of 4 10k missling rats. Also if you can split your drones into several groups that way you can recall them as they lose shields. Scoop and redeploy and they have full shields. And for your setup I'd suggest what I use. Medium slot cap recharger, low slot small armour repairer and a low slot range module, I can lock the rats from 33km.
Also if you're looking for quick cash, you can easily move your solo op to a system with a large buy order for lowend minerals. I.E. lonetrek has seen buy orders for trit at 3 isk each.

BlueSmok what lvl security systems do you usually go into while solo mining? You mentioned the high security if there's a nice buy order but what about lower sec?

I solo down to .5, .4 and below I usualy get cover. Mostly from the PC pirate threat rather than not being able to handle Rats.
