I hope someone can help me understand the 'Trade' skills because I find them very confusing. I think I understand Daytrading but then what is Marketing? Is it when you have something sitting in your Hanger X jumps away and it lets you enter a sell order?
Finally, Procurement and Visibility. I think Procurment is the reverse of Marketing but what exactly is a 'range of effect' given by Visibility?
Any help with these two would put me in your debt.

You are correct on marketing and procurement. Except procurement is bugged and doesn't work.
Visibility gives the range your orders can be seen at if you enter them while you're in space. If you're in a station visibility has no effect.
There are rumours of bugs in all trade skills, but as I have them all trained I can't tell if theres a problem or not :)

LvL 2 extends that to being able to place a buy order within 5 jumps away, with out having to be there however. If you don't have visability that buy order you setup will only buy items at the station you set it at, you'd have to travel there to set a range. With visability you can set a buy order to have a range of say 5 jumps from the station you set it at, visability has nothing to do with selling stuff. If you sell something it will be seen all over the entire region

Nope it works, to place a remote buy order for nocxium at say nonni while your sat in a station in sobaseki. You open the market screen then bring up nocxium find a sell order at nonni for nocxium, say it was 10,000 units for 410 isk. But you want to buy nocx for 350 isk per unit, so you'd right click on any sell order for nocx that is at a station in nonni. Then select buy this, then click on advanced you can then set the price time in days or months and the amount you wish to buy. Thats the remote buy order setup 5 jumps away from you, damn that was hard to explain in words

they aren't bugged
you just need to appreciate the subtle differences between buying and selling things when you are docked, when you are in space, and when you are away from the remote system. Which I don't.

Edited by: Lacero Callrisian on 28/03/2005 11:47:45 Edited by: Lacero Callrisian on 28/03/2005 11:42:29 It obviously is bugged. You're saying unless someone has a sell order up in a station I can't set up a remote buy order? Do you honestly believe thats how it's supposed to work?
Also I petitioned and was told it was bugged. Though I realise that doesn't mean much.
[Edited because it read a bit like I was being angry and flaming. I'm not, I think I'm just annoyed that the guy I petitioned didn't tell me about setting up remote buy orders by fulfilling others orders with my own price :) ]

Edited by: Duke Danger on 28/03/2005 19:37:20 Thanks guys. Your responses did help me better understand Trade Skills.
Also, I was thinking it would be great if your own orders were a different color like Corp and Gang members are in Space.

OK, let me try my 2 ISK worth.
The description of Procurement is badly worded. 'Range' refers to the distance over which the Buy Order extends. Example: I have a 20 jump Buy Order for Frozen Food at Sobaseki. That means anyone within 20 jumps (most of Lonetrek) can sell me Frozen Food. It doesn't magically appear at Sobaseki of course, I have to go fetch it.
Marketing range enables you to sell items at a distance. Example: I'm in Oursulaert, I have Marketing-2 and I have a stockpile of Isogen at Luminaire. I think the price has peaked so it's time to dump: I open Assets and put the Isogen into a Sell Order.
Daytrading lets you change the price on existing Buy and Sell Orders. When used it also resets the duration of the order, which is cheaper than letting it expire and setting up a new one. Example: my Sell Order for Widgets at 100 ISK has only 2 days left to run. I Modify it to 99 ISK and the time jumps back to 90 days.
I didn't know about that Buy Order at a distance trick though. Neat.

...and why would anyone choose not to dock instead of training all those skills is beyond me.
A really vaporware set of skills.
Lemme see... each of my pricechecks on a region takes 10 mins, from gate to dock=5-10secs, procurement/visibility=mils of sp's. What am I gonna choose... the sp's or the dock button, hmmmm, hmmmmm
