I keep coming back to the same thought: Incarna would work better as a seperate game. CCP could leave the Captains Quarters as they are, and maybe have the bar/catina concept as a social meeting point, and develop Incarna as a semi-seperate (in the sense that Dust is seperate) EVE-Universe game.
That way those who aren't interested at all can rest assured that CCP-EVE's focus remains on ~spaceships~, and those who dearly want to see their e-self do stuff in person can simply buy an additional game that allows them to switch between one and the other. Or even just play Incarna, if that's what they want.
Structure the thing as a B2P/vanity+customisables shop/DLC model, and that should give suficient funds to develop and maintain content. Price it at 2 PLEX/$30/-ú20, and 200k subs give CCP 6 million bucks to get it kicked off (given that they've already done a considerable amount of work, that should be enough to get something working out of the door), plus additional funds when they release new content.
After all there's no inherent reason why Incarna needs to share exactly the same open-universe model as EVE, right? Make the core game Empire/lo-sec, plus maybe 1 initial pirate 0.0 region, and develop each of the pirate regions successively as a DLC, with one released every 9-12 months, and you've got something that's potentially pretty good value IMO. (Obviously the pirate regions are where the sweetest candy is)
Personally I would cheerfully pay that amount, and I think a lot of other people would too, especially if it was a one-time commitment to play the basic game with an occasional 1 PLEX/$15/-ú10 to open another big area.
Why not? If it means actually getting the job done, then surely giving the interested parties a chance to fund accelerated development (and additional developers) is the way forward. MatrixSkye Mk2: "Remember: You consent to unconsensual PVP the moment you press the "Undock" button." |

This guy sounds like he works for EA. What next? Little tags denoting that you purchased DLC for Delve and thus able to use those new out-of-ship activities in space?
One universe, one game, one Eve Online. To make it so that ANY loot is only gotten only from a pay-to-access plex (which is th only way to incentivise this) is Pay-to-win in its purest form.
Pay-to-win is pay-to-lose in Eve.
Take your DLC heresy back to origin where it belongs.

Thanks for consigning my post to the forum of game feature ideas when this isn't a game feature idea.
What's next, moving character sales adds to the corp recruitment forum?

It is a game feature idea if you plan to keep it connected to EvE in some fashion. |

I guess I don't understand the proposal.
1) To the extent that avatar gameplay takes place outside of spaceships, it is a game within a game, just like spaceship combat is. Either you're in station (whether a running station or a ruined Sleeper installation) or you're in capsule. If you want avatar gameplay, dock, and stay docked as long as you want. If you want spaceship gameplay, undock, and stay undocked as long as you want.
2) The appeal of avatar gameplay centers around the pilots we already have. It deepens and broadens the game to have them be able to do things in and out of capsules. If I have to roll up a separate character just to walk around, meh. I don't understand the value of that. DUST is different because, as a planet-side shooter on a console platform, its client and its back end have a completely different set of technical requirements.
3) The only F2P idea I like (besides DUST, whose success we will be able to measure before too long) is the one that pivots on the fact that your subscription manifests in game as a pilot's license. If you're not paid up, you can't fly, and you're stuck in station and dependent on licensed pilots for transportation.
4) This will do nothing to make people feel better about CCP's focus on ~spaceships~. After all, the mere existence of DUST and WoD ~concerns~ them as it is. How would adding a fourth game alleviate any concerns, when, if anything, it would require more effort and a larger team than extending EVE? If people aren't convinced by CCP's recent re-dedication to improving the game-as-is, what will convince them? |
