Not wishing to sound like a complete fool, but am I right in assuming that you cannot use a BP to produce Advanced Materials and that the only way is using a POS Reactor (Eg: Crystallite Alloy + Carbon Polymers to produce Crystalline Carbonide)?

Correct. Advanced materials can be obtained in only 2 ways. 1. Using a POS reactor - preferred method 2. Reprocess T2 components - not recommended
The advanced materials may be used with the appropriate BPO/BPC to create T2 components.

Now there's an understatement! I know about the use of these materials in Tech II production, as I'm compliling a spreadsheet for all the ship equpiment available in game (stay tuned for that!), but wasn't sure how to obtain these things.

Why would you not recommend it?

lol the only thing you can do with the reprossed stuff is to make t2 components. Only way it would be profitable would be to find t2 comonents that will reprocess into the materials you need for your t2 comp production. You'd have to find these very cheap and in large quantities. You'd reprocess them into their material parts and see what quantities of materials you get. As you wont get 100% of the materials you need from this (without buying multiple t2 comonents to melt) you'd still have to buy materials to finish the reactions.
Now if you can do all of that and still make a high enough profit to warrant going to all that trouble to make your components, then great. However i dont think buying t2 comps for the purpose of melting em to make other t2 comps is going to be profitable. you're looking at the very least 2 t2 comps to buy and melt. Unless you can get those 2+ parts for less than you sell your product, then it's not worth it and not recommended.

I have on numerous occasions bought t2 components, recycled and recombined them useing the method you have described works well. Buying Minmatar t2 components to make a different races components means simply buying the target races adv materials. It works particularly well as a buffer against prices on t2 components that are temporarily high such as nanoelectrical microp or more normally for things like reactor units.
It will work less well after the changes they make to agent drops however.
