Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 29/03/2005 16:51:43 Just thought I'd ask around on what software poeple prefer for DVD-writing. I used to use Nero until my CD-writer croaked, but I'm always open for suggestions.
Oh, and anyone know what's the defference between +R and -R media is? I'm sure I've read it somewhere, but since I havn't had a DVD-writer until today that knowledge never has had any reason to stick.

I use Nero for all CD/DVD burning I do however if you want to rip DVDs i would suggest DVD Shrink (it actually works with Nero as well)
As for the difference between + and -... there really isn't much. From my understanding the only difference i have ever noticed is they were developed by 2 different companies lol. It use to matter as only one type worked with a peticular DVD player or reader but nowadays most DVD players support both and most newer DVD burners can support both... I only use DVD- as i never have any problems with them :)

Nah, I don't have any real need to do DVD-rips. I found something called DeepBurner. The free version does what I need it to do, which is to put stuff on discs without making coasters of them.

supposedly dvd+r is slightly better quality, but thats up for debate. basically phillips and a few other companies developed dvd+r as a rival too dvd-r and ram, it was developed at the same time and released around the same time, becasue of its similarities too the more popular dvd-r format and the fact that most manufacturers support both it is still around, prob wont go anywhere either

I just press the "Record" button on the DVD, that seems to work. And I prefer those DVD+RW disk, since those have prettier case over the DVD-RW. SigPl/HQ&Log Coy/MNB(C)/KFOR |

Nero is still the best for pretty much anything involving shiny disks.

DVD shrink is the best proggy to use for making DVD *ahem* backups, I also use Alcohol 120% for backing up games. *whistles*
as has been said Nero is pretty good as a package along with Roxio, I use both for making music/data CD/DVDs
