Edited by: Phearlene on 29/03/2005 18:15:44 was wondering if CCP would get a quality model kit manufacturer to produce some ship kits for sale on the Eve store? With the amount of graphics available crafting would be a snap for the manufacturer.. (like AMC or Tamiyo) and then you could have a sweet 1:32 scale model of your ship at your desk at work. I'd be on that like a dirty sock..

I would soooo want on of these! Only problem is, they'd be damn expensive. First of all, CCP needs to buy them from the factory at a bumped up price, then CCP needs to sell them at an even higher price to yeild profits. I think the only reason they're not doing this is because of the costs involved with designing and mass producing them ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

I don't think that manufacturing these things would be profitable. CCP could probably get about 100 sales of each item type they make. EVE player base isn't that big
But I bet that a single person could make some of those ship models as a hobby and then sell them for decent money. Cause then it would be a work of art, a collector's item rather than a piece of mass production.

Seconded! I'd certainly want a collection of these models.

Not necessarily. Think of something like Games Workshop in the UK (who would be a good bet, they already produce masses of sci-fi kit). They actually manage to make a profit selling the Lord of the Rings minitures and gods alone know how much that license cost them. Granted, they actually have their own production facilities but it shows that it can be done.
Problem is, Eve's numbers mean that, even if everyone who plays the game brought their own ship or even multiple ships, there simply aren't enough players to make that cost-effective, at least, not in plastics. Resins (which are slightly cheaper to produce) might make it worthwhile though.
Please make models CCP. You can put me down for a guarenteed sale on most of teh battleships (except the Minmatar which are ugly).

good point about the limited player base, but on the plus side it could bring IN a horde of new players who see these models.. wonder where they came from and read the "Chronicle" backstory that comes with each kit. (and visit the eve site of course).
Could not only add to the revenue for CCP but give us more NoObs to play with. Also, I don't think costs to CCP should be that high, a good manufacturer would likely see the potential and PAY CCP to license the rights to produce .. Just a thot .
