Nothing ground breaking here.
Just a small idea/suggestion to CCP to put some sort of system into the game for sending links via the chat windows. Similar to the systems in EQ and EQ2 where you link an item via the chat window so someone else can read the stats or info.
I believe this would be very useful when explain or showing information to other Corp members or friends.
For example, showing a Corp member the stats on an item. The picture of that item could be dragged into the chat window where it automatically creates a link which can be viewed and clicked on by others in the chat window. This link can be clicked on by someone else in the same chat group to view the same info as the person who created the link.
This would also be useful for veterans when explaining things to newer players.

often when someone types a url in the chat box, it appears that most are able to click on the url and go to that site in the in-game browser. It doesnt work for me though, and a few others I've talked to. I am wondering if it works at all or if someone is yanking my chain.

well, i've never been able to do that either.
But in this case, i am more talking about linking items or maybe agents.
For example, i loot a named AB while out on a mission. One of my Corp mates have never seen one before and would like to see the stats.
So rather than having to stop and type the name of it, then he has to copy or type the name into the market and search, how about having the ability to actually drag the item in question, out of your cargo bay or hanger and drop it onto the area of a chat window you would normally type in, which in turn creates a clickable link in everyone elses window that when clicked brings up the details of the item being linked.

Dragging an item to the chat area should create a link to the "Show Info" for that item.
I definiately think it possible and desirable feature...good idea.

Now that I understand more fully what you are saying, I agree this would be a handy feature, and even kinda cool...but is it needed?

well, is it needed... probably not. are alot of things not needed... sure but the reason i suggested it was because i see so many 'nerf this' and 'make PvP this way' style threads that i thought i would just suggest something that i would envisage would be relatively easy to implement (compared to the vastness of EvE itself) and would purely enhance the interface. I just thought that everyone regardless of experience or ability would find this a useful addition to the game.
Pro's: Enhances the EvE interface. Con's: None really (apart from a few headaches for the coders)

Would be easy to sell stuff to in the chat. one just need to drag the item and the write the prise and everyone can see exact what item it is and its stats without checking in databases etc.
