So I played this game from launch till late '03. So its been awhile.
I have 0 interest in mining.
As I'm waiting to get the vital learning skills up to rank4, I find myself at a loss of what to do. Kill missions take forever due to having to kite the npc's then go back to collect the cans, and I can't find even an idea of a frigate you can setup a shield or armor tank on. Can you tank a frigate? Esp at a lower level of skills (I'm just passed 100k points at this point).
Or should I stick to barely playing while I wait, doing the occasional npc courrier mission?
Short Version: I need a tank setup for a Gal frigate if thats possible w/out having several skills @ rank5.

Edited by: Threat on 30/03/2005 19:47:47 Switch to caldari and use a kestrel, you can get away with almost no skills (rockets work fine) and they are cheap. In the long run based on current strengths of ships and weapons its a better idea as well. Amarr is a close second. Gallente (excluding the Demious (sp?) is the redheaded stepchild right now.
oops forgot the rest... skip the loot, leave the cans, unless you are really hurting for isk. Or do courier missions, but find a station with 2 courier agents and work them at the same time.

Kestrel mish setup
High - 4 * Light Missile Launchers loaded with bloodclaws Med - small shield booster1 (or named), shield extenders (EM and KIN usually) and an AB or MWD depending on skills Low - cap relays
I think I've remembered it all.
I did level 2 missions with that setup. Stay at 20K from the rats and the missiles kill them. The speed boost is just for picking up the loot after if you want it. -- ** All accounts cancelled - have fun guys ** |

I appreciate the help guys but there has to be another way (right?) I refuse to fly Caldari. There are just too many Ravens/caldari pilots as is and I've never much liked the look of their ships.
I'd be willing to switch to Amarr (what I flew before) or Min although I had grown attatched to the look of the Brutix and dreaming about flying one for the past couple of days..
Appreciate the effort but it looks like I'm going to have to do things the hard/boring way for now.

Edited by: F''nog on 31/03/2005 01:31:14 You can tank a frig, but it's not easy with low skills. Your best bet for doing so is Amarr. Punishers can make great tanks. You'll have to train up your Engineering and Mechanic skills though to make it easy. You don't have to be an Amarr to fly one, of course. So you can just stick with this character unless you have RP reasons not to train other races' ships.
You'll also want to train up your gunnery support skills to be more effective. But it's not as important for frig pilots, since their guns can hit things more easily than cruier or BS guns.

You don't need skills at 5, but you may need some at 4 (engineering, mechanic, hull upgrades...). Start with the armor repairer and the extender, add enough cap power relays / cap rechargers to keep the repairer running indefinitely, then add an afterburner if you can and whatever's left, put some guns in there (you probably won't be able to fit the biggest).
I know I can take .5 belt rats and some level 2 missions with an armor-tanked Punisher.

Your best bet at the moment is getting an Incursus.
Fit 3 ion blasters, 1 small shield booster, an AB,a cap recharger, 1 small armor rep and a micro Auxillary power core.
You now have a very self-sufficient frigate, that cuts thorugh NPC frigs like a hot knife through butter. You can even kill npc cruisers in 3/10 complexes as long as you're careful.
The setup is a bit expensive for a noob however...Since you want a T2 shield booster, you might need about 1-1.5 mil for this. But its totally worth it. _______________________________________________
