Eve is crying out for some more atmospheric content.
Occasional pop-ups with RP explanations for bugs don't really cut it.
The background is superb and not at all 'kiddie'. It needs to be carried over into the game. The graphics and sound drip atmosphere. I'm scared of the whole thing becoming a sterile experience that revolves around ship and module attributes.
I haven't seen Polaris doing any events yet. Has anyone else?
I've got one simple idea that would help create a 'living - breathing' galaxy ...
Make latest news stories pop-up on entering certain systems and adjust system sec lvl, pirate numbers and levels, markets, station services or any number of things to match the story.
Anyone else got any ideas on how to make the game more atmospheric?
With any luck CCP will take some notice. ----------------------------------------- Don't jump off the roof dad. You'll make a hole in the yard. ----------------------------------------- |

Small one(perhaps larger soon enough) taking form with Si and Oi. Keep an eye on the Event forum for progress.

Also a few more corporations may well have already been involved in Polaris events as well - keep an eye on the Events forum for more details :)

Pann noted that CCP was waiting till people got settled, before the event starts (something about killing a battleship as an event while still in frigates). However, events will most unlikely be concentrated around big PvP battle, as you can play CS for that...

Indeed - currently the two publicised Events (the Oberon and Saboath Stickies in the Events forum) were both information gathering exercises.
And the plot didn't just drop in the corporations laps either. For Oberon, they drew attention to themselves by trying to get into Jove space/contact the Jove race.
Who know what other corporations may have done/said... :D --

I feel it's probably just early days for the plot arc, hence why not a lot appears to have happened.
Also the arc seems very much cloak and dagger style, and hence big blaring trumpets about it would be almost out of place!
This is probably the first major plot arc for EVE and hence it's virgin territory for both the event staff and players - it's starting off slow, sure, but no doubt it'll be heard about soon! --

I personally don't want to see an event anytime soon. Too attempt any combat event at the moment would be suicide for the participants. Or long trips to the middle of nowhere for 5 minutes of action and the activation of their ship insurance.
Concord and the sentry guns at gates will ensure that any participant will be punished to the full extent of the law (read: hybrid enemas for everyone). That will happen because its impossible not to incur a sec hit during them.
Travelling for 2 hours to non-empire space will lead to frustration among anyone that gets vaped in the 1st 5 minutes. And that happened during the beta test events a lot.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

But beta test events were not true events - just encounters. They were stress tests, and not a lot more than that.
The events in live so far include actors, merely talking, imparting information. Asking for favours, and actually interacting with players to a degree unseen in beta.
For instance, in the case of Saboath, I believe they were asked to investigate Oberon and report back. To me, that is a wonderful encounter - it involves two corporations, could possibly lead to conflict, and can involve a lot of people.
Minmatar could take up the side of Oberon, as the Sarum Family are obviously up to something that Oberon may be able to hinder. Other Amarr corps could involve themselves - perhaps selling information to either side or even offering their own services to one of the Five Heirs...
It would appear that EVE plot is not something that merely is, you have to go out and find it.
I know the BSC has. --

Along with sec rating loss and Concord massacres under the beta security system. With these current security systems in place, the only event would be to pick through the cargo containers looking for loot.

It already IS a living, breathing galaxy, usually populated simultaneously by about 5,000 living, breathing, real players!
THAT is Eve's content. The game is 100% designed to be a framework for complex player interactions, both military and political. And it meets that goal extremely well.
I do not give a damn about any sort of lame NPC backstory they could dream up, or any cheesy events related to it. It cannot be remotely as interesting as the player interactions. I think Eve has more content than any other MMORPG because it allows the players to generate more dynamic situations. One corporate war--one match of battle, reconaissance, espianoge, negotiations, and connection-building--is worth more to me than a million lame NPC quests or epic monsters to kill.
Players crying out for more content just do not understand the point of Eve at all. ___________________________________________

Singular, you're an amazingly sore loser.
A. Not one person has quit my corp. Several members who joined at or around release have since decided that the game is not for them, and they're back in DAOC or SWG. People were thinking we were a 30-member corp, when really we're 14 people (roster of 18 includes 4 alts). I put the 10 who no longer play Eve all on "member emeritus" status, which means that they're still welcome in our corp but I've removed them from the roster.
B. You were somehow stupid enough to try to convince me in a private conversation that those people quit because your corp kept podding them, even though not one of them has been logged in since weeks before we first even HEARD of Vandelay Industries. Specifically, you said:
Singular > your noobs QUIT Singular > they were BEGGING us for mercy
You were saying this of people who quit the whole game of Eve weeks before any of us had heard of your corporation. You were also saying it in a private conversation to me, the very person who clicked the "expel" button to remove them from the roster. You seriously deserve a Darwin Award for that streak of stupidity. It's no wonder your corp is so unaccomplished for its size and none of your members have any idea how to fight.
C. After I had personally podkilled 3 of your members in cruisers within the last couple of hours, you tried to tell me that your corporation had podkilled many more of us than we've killed of you. Yet we both know that you've never podkilled any of us. But you lie privately to me about it! Specifically:
Singular > lol you can fk off, we have podded many more of your peeps, and will continue to do so. You got lucky tonight
I can see how you might lie in public for propaganda purposes, but to lie about it privately to me, when you know we both know the facts? What's wrong with your head? You'd make the Iraqi Information Minister jealous.
D. You came to these boards to criticize us for doing reconaissance with an alt outside of our corp (who you foolishly shot at). Yet you had already previously attempted to infiltrate our corp with an alt! People can see that here:
http://www.si-corp.net/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32
The second post in that thread is an application from RuruoniKenshin, an alt of Prince Vegeta of Vandelay Industries, trying to infiltrate us as a spy. You come here to criticize us for "underhanded" alt use tactics, when you guys had already done worse? Add hypocrisy to the mile-long list of your flaws as a CEO and a person.
So we got you killed by the cops and your own stupidity. So we've podded your director. So our war has resulted in 6 cruiser losses for you and only 1 lost frigate for us. So your Moas have to run from my blackbird whenever you see me 1 on 1. So you're totally outclassed and outwitted and you're getting your butts kicked by a corp 1/3 your size. That's no reason to go spreading libel about us. :) If you want to talk trash, I suggest you talk about how we're nasty pirates, robbers and thieves. I'm sure that will upset us, oh yes.

I see what your saying Setec. I just think there are some very simple things CCP could do to to add to the atmosphere. Things that wouldn't involve Polaris having to plan for weeks in advance.
For example ....
Planet X in System Y has exploded into civil war. Stations X and Y are in lockdown until the situation improves. Increased Naval presence. Demand for small-arms increases in station Z.
Not a galaxy shattering event but would be something to talk about and an exciting opportunity for traders.
I'm kinda hoping that not all the events are going to be based around combat. ----------------------------------------- Don't jump off the roof dad. You'll make a hole in the yard. ----------------------------------------- |

i have to agree with setec on this one.
Tough he is our enemy, that does not mean we go flame one a other or call names.
sins 3 weeks we bin up to fighting strenght with skilz and gear and pvp practice. sins that time we are actively resist some pirates of wich space invaders is one. and i must say the game got a lot better
side note for all the players who still dont understand : its just a game
Dont think you are, know you are. |
