I had an epiphany today. A moment of clarity. A potential solution to the complaints of lag in fleet battles.
I was on the test server, and having accepted a 1v1 invitation from a character named Bagzy, we ganged and I warped to him. What ensued was a 17 minute and 14 second pounding match. The tide went back and forth. Control of range and wise cap usage were beyond mere utility, they were necessary for survival. Our rigs differed, yet were near parity regardless.
What were we flying? I shall come to that....
An offhand comment after the fight by Bagzy led to my epiphany. He said 'thats about how long most fleet battles last'. And low and behold, a connection was made. A thought stirred, coalesced, and came to fruition. A solution to safespotting fleets, drone lag, and the ubiquitious 100km+ gankfest that is the modern fleet engagement.
What ships were we flying?
The mighty Badger Mk 1.
Yes! A hauler fight! We've all done or dreamed of doing them; mighty leviathans that ply the spaceways squared off to do battle. Imagine not a 1v1, or 3v3, but a FLEET HAULER BATTLE!! No drones, no missles, very little lag.
Think of it: Badger Mk 2 EW suites. Iteron 5 railgun platforms with 5x mag field stabs, fast-attack Mammoths spewing autocannon fire as they come!
I call on those forces currently waging war across EVE: put away your cumbersome BS's, tuck those flighty inties away. Let those hauler/trader characters truly show their mettle....don't THEY deserve some action, too?
I eagerly await the reports of the first hauler fleets riding thru Fountain, of massive hordes of Xetic haulers ganking their way thru empire, of Merc Coalition traps run with Mammoths and MWD....
Can you smell the carnage? And just think, you'll never have to worry about running to base to drop off loot and corpses :)
good luck, have fun, and may you die before me!

There was a great vid by Eldar Curunir (Xetic) blowing up a CA crusader twice in his badgerII. The soundtrack was awesome too.

I have that video on my PC. (It's one of my favorites, there's a similar video of a Battle Bestower too)
If you can give me somewhere to upload it, I'll let you have it.

A corp-mate of mine did actually bring an Iteron to an anticipated fleet action recently, the battle never occurred but his logic in bringing the Iteron was near flawless. Unfortunately I wasn't logging chat, so I don't actually remember what that logic was
