Hi!
I have a question about caldari ships ...
I'm ratting in 0.0 in a Drake, and while it's a good tank, etc. the money is in the dps (faster kills - more ISK). As far as I read - the next step would be Tengu ...
BUT .. fitted Tengu (I believe) goes for about 600mill ... to get there in a Drake with random PVP incurred side projects/ships/costs will take a considerable time.
So the main question is - should I continue to Drake around, or pick a Raven/Rokh as a 'middleman' to raise the ISK faster?
Regards,

how often do you reasonable expect to be pulling in say 10/10's'. By reasonable I mean hope to find a 10/10 not occupied by a corp/alliance mate most of the time.
Not sure of your home, my last tour in 0.0 when I logged in all the good stuff claimed already. Carries on the havens/sanctums, the 10/10's being run. And all those on all the good stuff knew the timers and refreshes. So off to the belts I went.
And for the belts I will plug a plain ole t1 raven. Mine was a firesale raven that lived many many months before I left 0.0. made me damn good money. Usually killed fast enough to give a few minutes to loot good wrecks and by the time last belt killed and looted....most of the earlier spawns all built up again or close. I liked the minimal downtime. Anything faster and it be sit in a safe pos going man when the hell is that triple pope actually gonna have 3 popes in it again.
Well that and since a real good firesale from a person we jsut evicted....cheap as dirt. best 80 mil I ever spent in game tbh lol. Sure much more expensive these days ofc. |

the hulls 600, you then have to add on subsystems... im not even thinking of the fit :)
Id always be weary flying BS's in 0.0, and you will prob have to pimp out T1 version to do the higher end anoms - Nulla Curas |

A Tengu hull is a lot cheaper than 600m...

For the price of tengu you can buy dominix and plex for second account and have better results with two rr dominixes. I use two dominixes becasue drones can shoot without management and shield RR tank can reach 900 on each with cheap T2 fit.
But i try to avoid rating any time :D. I consider doing PI and station trading much more fun even though isk/hr might be similar. |

That Tengu should last more as one month. That second account needs a plex every month and won't be able to hop into that dominix without some training as well.
Drake to Tengu has the advantage that you don't have to train for a bigger size hull/weapon so you won't waste skill training. Drake to BS has teh advantage of a big DPS increase for a more reduced investment.
Switching from missiles to rails might also require some additional training but if you talk about belt ratting I would consider a Tier 3 battlecruiser. They have battleship size dps and can easily (speed) tank any belt. |

So ... aside from the Tengu price discussion and back to my question ... are Ravens/Rokhs good as filler between Drake and Tengu (presuming I have descent skills for all that)? |

Lol only now see you are in FCON/GRTP as well.
A Rokh/Raven is a good filler between Drake and Tengu. I moved from Drake to Raven the moment I could afford that raven hull. They offer more dps which is what matters for isk/hour when ratting. Compared to an overtanked drake they might not offer a bigger tank though.
You mention a torp raven. I admit my only experience was with cruise ravens since I found torpedo's to have a bad damage application (will improve a bit with the next expansion.) and even worse range (vs Gurista BS that like to orbit at 54 km).

Um... Belt rat for a while in a manticore.
Seriously, you can create a very nice pve manticore that can produce adequate dps to kill belt rats. Just skip the bomb launcher and add a 200mm autocannon (t2 if possible) to help with any belt rat frigates.
You'll be risking far less isk than a raven, have a covert op cloak if you have to run, letting you hide even in systems with no pos or station, and put out more dps on battleships than your drake. I forget if the raven gives a damage bonus. If not, your bomber may even be close to the raven for dps.
Once you have enough isk, then go for a tengue for anoms and higher end sites. |
