Edited by: Veren Sark on 03/04/2005 23:35:47 Ok, here goes and apologies if this seems to be a recurring theme in these forums but i'm doing my nut trying to get a good set up for this lvl 5 complex i am attempting to get through. This evening i have just lost a raven with this set up which i was assured would give the desired tanking results: 6 siege launchers xl c5L shield booster, 3 cap recharg 2's, 1 vm15 matrix, 100 afterburner 2 3 ballistics controllers, co pro 2, power diag.
Now the rats in question are Angels and give unspecified damage across the board so it's hard to tank but apparently doable. This set up was given to me by a local guy who told me it would gaurantee success but my raven bought the dust due to lack of cap and the damge sustained. Basically it was shredded ad as u can see that lot is expensive. Can someone please give me once for all a really good tanking set up for this type of thing cuz i'm gonna be out of money and interest if this continues.
Cheers all

Edited by: Akaviri on 03/04/2005 23:49:17 That doesn't look like a good tanking setup. Is the vm15 matrix thing an invulnerablity field? If so, then that's what probably ate all your cap.
Here's a setup that's better than what you were using:
Hi: 6 Siege, 2 Medium Nosferatu Mid: xl c5L sb, shield boost amplifier, 2x em hardener, thermal hardener, kinetic hardener Low: Ballistic Control, 4x Power Diagnostic II's
Don't waste a slot on a coprocessor unless you really need it. Swap out the nosses for guns if you want. You can also swap a PDS for another Ballistic Control if want more firepower at the expense of tanking ability.
Also, an explosive hardener might be better than having a second EM hardener. I'm not too sure about that. It depends on how many angel rats there are doing explosive dmg. I haven't tried the lvl 5 angel complex yet.

Replace 1 em ward with a 20km scrambler and you've got a damn good pvp setup.
That should answer those who were wondering, if any --------------------------------------

Edited by: Minuz1 on 04/04/2005 01:45:26 Not enough resistances on the shield, 1x invul hardener just won't cut it.
High: 6x siege missle launchers (malkuth or better are prefered to save cpu) +1-2 Cap drainers to get more cap into the ship (use on a low dmg frig that closly orbit's you)
Med: 2x em, 1x thermal, 1x kinetic hardnerers 1x XL shield booster 1x Shield booster amplifier
Low slots: Power diag II's as required and Ballistic control units for the rest.
-happy hunting.
P.S. for more versions of ship setups. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=138274

Edited by: Hyey on 04/04/2005 04:41:02 Edited by: Hyey on 04/04/2005 04:40:27 The lazy mans tanking setup
6x Siege 1x Heavy Nos 1x Whatever
1x em 1x therm 1x kin 1x shield amp 1x t2 large shield booster 1x Cap Charger 2 or Eucetic
3x PDU 2 2x BCU
you can tank up to 2x750k 1x1.5mil pretty comfortable and you can leave the t2 large rep on auto repeat and have it last for quiet awhile. You cant take officer spawns with it though as it doesnt offer enough tanking per second.
Non-Lazy mans tanking setup
6x Siege 2x heavy nos (preferable, you can have whatever though.) 1x XL C5 or better instead of large t2 booster, rest is the same. 5x PDU 2
You can take pretty much any officer spawn down with this setup solo. The only difference is the fact that you cant keep the booster on auto repeat because it drains cap too fast. You have to be able to manage your cap better and keep it on manual. Oh and your torps do less damage, easily remedied with torps 4 or 5
Pros: Tanks anything and its mother, along with any nasty pirates that want to reck your party.
Cons: Actually takes effort to use. May have to use named launchers and hards to avoid CPU problems. ( I use 1 Arba 3 ZW 2 Limos and it fits) ~~ Hyey
I just payed 15 dollars this month just to be able to respond on the forums... stupid cancellation error.

When you're tanking resistance plays a big part of what makes a good tank, if they do all damage types theirs still 2 factors 1) they will do higher damage of one or two types than the others b) the natural resistance of your shields

Veren, I am not sure what type of damage those NPCs do but you screwed up by using the V15 invulnerability field which used a lot of cap.It also gives some unnecesary hardening (like explosive). This is the setup I used for Serpentis NPCS. You can switch out the hardeners as needed. Highs: 6x Seige Launchers (torps 4tw), 2x Med Nos Meds: 1x T2 Shield Booster Large, 2x Thermal Hardener, 1x Kinetic, Shield Boost Amplifier, 1x Eutectic Cap Recharger (or T2) Lows: 3x PDUs, 2x Ballistic Controls.
You can tank a raven to the nuts with this provided u have the right hardeners. If you are killing BSs let the frigs live while they orbit around you and use your nosferatus on them to gain additional cap. With the T2 Shield booster and amp ull be regenerating shields real fast.

6 seige
XL C5-L, amp, 2xem 1xheat hardners, large cap injector (using 800's)
2 ballistic controls, 3 PDU 2's
you can change the low slots to give you more power/cpu for nosferatus/turrets if you wish but i doubt you will need them. This set-up will easily get you through a lvl5 complex.

For Massive shields I think(at work atm) I use
2 x Large Shield Extender II 3 x Hardeners 1 x XL CL5 / Clarity 1 x Cap Power Relay II
5 x PDU II
It's tough on CPU, so use Malkuth Siege launchers & named hardeners where you can.
But - you will get ~ 12k Shields with good resistances and fairly large capacitor for that XL Shield Booster. You will also get something of passive shield (HELLO POTTSEY)recharge, which is not inconsequential.

You'll also get -1 midslots. Just the one large extender then? Or an amp, which is better than the first extender, IIRC. ---:::---

as above minus the CPRII
I dont like amps, I'd always replace an amp with a hardener.
reducing incoming dmg > bit extra boosting

trick is that the PDUs boost the Extenders too so you get a nice big shield to play with

many thanks for your responses guys. A nice varied array of answers there which should sort me out when i work out what's best for this particular complex. The reason i lost the raven was because of lag but i didn't want to come across as purely blaming that for my eve mess ups

I used this setup for my lvl4 missions and it worked fine:
High Slots: 6x Siege launchers
Med Slots: 1x C5-L shield booster 1x EM hardener 1x Thermal hardener 1x Kinetic hardener 1x Large (named) Cap booster with 400 size charges 1x Shield Boost Amp
Low Slots: 1x Ballistic Control Mod 4x PDU I's (tech II if u can)
Pretty basic setup, i used the booster instead of a recharger as i kept running out of cap. ----------------------------------------

Edited by: Lord Morkoth on 08/04/2005 01:25:25 well this one has proven its goodness:
High: malkuths and norm siege, 2x heavy dim nos
Med: xl dg sb, 2x dg amp, 3x named hards
Low: 5x PDU t2
i used to have a cap recharger but i figured that the only thing i use my cap for is to boost the shield, so why not trade it out for a 37,5% amp. With that xl dg sb and 2x dg amps i boost 1025hp/4sec thats 256hp/sec i love tanking 0,4 sec sentrys with that. I can keep the booster on auto for about 2mins if i use nos.
DOWNSIDE: i try not to think about i would do to myself if i would lose this 1bil ship.
