Please give me some time, I am a veteren player but not a veteren to the forums
When I bought Eve I was excited about being a pirate as promised, for a few months this worked well, I could ransom, shoot at people, and then my agent would be happy to "repair" my security, if not Concord wold slowly forget my actions that were perhaps not quite in their rule book.
Things changed, we adapted living on the fringes of empire plying our trade and having fun things were good, eventually people were willing to actually pay for our services, even better, as well as having fun, we were providing a service to the community at large.
things changed again, we adapted again I imagine we will always find a way to adopt our chosen and promised style of play. This is of course subject to CCP wishing for us to remain in the game they created.
I am still having fun and hope CCP can clarify how it see's our chossen path proggressing, Im not looking for a "cookie" just that I can continue shooting at people with them having the right to shoot back, but still being able to be part of the community in empire and not banished to the wildlands, were I have experienced on the occasions I have visited just random gankings without the stealth, intelegence and stratagy that Empire wars create.
Just an ole Merc's point of view.

you could pay to have your sec status repaired? why would they remove this? I think its a great idea to have ingame and think it should be reinstated personally.

Because the carebear ruling majority willed it so. Carebears and anti-pvpers are the scourge, they do this to all ambitious games that start out daring, but end up castrated. No more easy security fixes for pirates, wars now cost nearly prohibitive amounts of money, all these changes are because of them.
Suffer not a carebear to live. Drive them from their cotton candy huts with purging griefer fire, make slaves of their women and corpses of their men. The next time someone posts a request for a PVE server, or increased penalties for pirates on the forums, don't just jeer and flame them - declare war on them immediately and drive them from our game.

Hats off to Drax and Crew ur good at what ya do...I do it differently, some folks say I'm a griefer, some say pirate, I say it's me playing the game the way I think I should for the bucks I spend each month...we all play an important role and I hope it keeps evolving, that way it will never be boring.
*my goal for this year...keeping on Drax's good side*

You could bribe all sorts of agents, to increase their personal standing to you, and their factions' standing. This was a problem with Concord agents, because Concord faction standing == Security Status. They were disabled, for some reason or another.

The removal of security raises by agents and reduction in sec status gains from npcs were due to the sheer number of pirates able to pirate freely with high security status, making security status a totally pointless indicator of threat and a joke of a means to make players make the decision whether to risk piracy.
The ability to fire at will is a tremendous gain over the activity of law-abiding players and as such was always intended to have a downside in return. A few months in game proved there wasn't really a downside due to the sheer ease of earning sec back. Thus is was nerfed.
Strangely enough it's one issue I don't remember from the forums, just from seeing it patched, so I think it's a bit harsh to yet again blame the carebears.

Honestly, someone tries to start an intelligent thread discussing an underused and undervalued career path in Eve, and within a handful of posts someone else tries to hijack it into the tired old 'carebears ruined my game' discussion. It's really nice to see someone post along the lines of 'the rules changed, so I changed and I'm still enjoying it' instead of pouting over being made to play the game more intelligently.
Seriously, Istvaan, if hanging around 0.0 shooting at random ships that pass by is your thing by all means carry on and don't worry about your sec status. But if you want to zip around Empire shooting stuff, take a leaf out of Drax's book - adapt, find smarter ways to play, and then promote your case for having your chosen playing style looked after through presenting a good, reasoned argument.

That's interesting, because on other threads when I post my views the hardcore pirates see me as a big ol' carebear.
I'd like to think I, as with many, tread a middle road. I'm a miner by trade, but I've done some PvP, been ganked a few times, roleplayed, even had a brief stint out in 0.0.
I just stand up for what I think makes a better game, be it campaigning against war costs in one thread, poor ore in low sec in another, agreeing with or challenging suggested PvP changes in others.

HG, your words arouse me so much, i would love to give you a good ravishing and then bask in the blood of newly castrated carebears.
i've just come back to the game, and it's still saddening to see piracy/mercenary work play a minor role :( ----- ----- -----

It's supposed to be relatively minor though. If the parasite drains too much from the host it feeds on, it'll kill off the host and die itself.

i just wish to play the part of the highwayman. i work alone, i'm usually in a below class ship and i usually fight 1 vs 2 odds (sometimes 4). empire is the only place for the highwayman, but it's hard for us highwaymen to get around, and too easy for the prey to get around. removing the highways would be great start, increasing traffic to the low security systems. i doubt all level 4 agents will be shifted to 0.4 and below space, but i (myself as a level 4 agent mission runner) would see this a totally logical and welcome change. level 4 agents in 1.0 throw the risk vs reward out of the game.
and to be honest, a criminal flag timer would be nice. and maybe a change in flagging too?
how about: sentries don't respond to flagging, but do to aggression and visible criminal flagging for 1 hour? ----- ----- -----
