I am not a Star Wars freak. I am a fan, but I'll wait a few days for the crowds to die before I go see it at the theatre. Having said that, let me dive in...
Okay, who here has already bought and finished the book? I did last night and OMG! If the movie is ANYTHING like this book, then I may actually be able to enjoy the first two prequels knowing that this is the payoff.
The writing style is fantastic. The author doesn't tell the story so much as he gets inside the character's heads.
A word of advice: read his previous Star Wars book 'Shatterpoint' for a much better appreciation of Mace Windu's character. It really enhances the battle between Mace and Palpatine because you completely understand why the fight goes the way it does.
I was very, very impressed with how the book shows the love between Obi-Wan and Anakin. The way that Anakin descends into darkness is painful to witness. He doesn't revel in it; it's just something that happens. If the movie shows even half of what the book shows, by the time Obi-Wan and Anakin face off, you're going to be ready to see the murdering, evil bastard that is Anakin destroyed.
I've always wondered what event would force the issue, what would finally cause "The Duel" and in this, I was not dissapointed. It's horrifying and satisfying all at once. Anakin truly proves how under the influence of evil and his emotions he is and shows nothing but rage and anger toward those who loved him for their efforts to 'save' him.
All in all, an excellent book and a fantastic warm up to seeing the spectacle on the big screen. -

Never realised that ol'Obi and Anakin were... ahh nm.
Though, there sure is something rather geeky with Vaders helmet and breathing. ........ There is a fine line between gate camping and just standing by a gate, looking like an idiot... |

Little known fact: over half of BDCI was recuited at Star Wars conventions.
Another little known fact: first time I saw Seleene at a convention, he was prancing around in a Jedi outfit having a lightsaber duel with the EVE character now known as Valeriya.
Anyone seen Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog's "Star Wars Nerds"? Remember the skinny nerd who said that he was up to the task of pleasuring the girl? Yep - Seleene. It's so bad, that when you go over to his house, the doorbell rings with the sound of a lightsaber: "vwoom, vwoooom". He had an argument with his wife once because she refused to allow him to use a light-up Yoda head as a nightlight for their son... Speaking of son, you can't even touch the kid without getting the "how high the Midichlorian (sp?) count in my son is!" speech... Sad, really.
/me goes and packs stuff for the inevitable kicking I'll get from the corp...

Hmm, I might just go and pick that book up. I usually don't pay much mind to a book with "Star Wars" in the title, although, that's not saying some of them aren't decent. _______________________________________________ Eris Discordia: On the scale of funny and constructive it scores low, real low. |

The one thing I respect about the SW novels is that they all tie in together, even if written by different people. The "prequel" novels are especially good. -

Evil isn't something that just happens it's behavioural patterns compounding, much like disasters it's many small things adding up.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan proved to be less then satisfactory teachers as given example of by the slur in the first movie and the indifference towards it when referring to Jar-Jar as an inferior lifeform. By their actions they're partly responsible for Anakin turning to the dark side.
Perhaps not so subtle by Lucas but I'm guessing subtle enough for some to have missed it.

I totaly agree o_0. im not an ub3r star wars freak either but my friend bought me the books and the writing is brillant. I cant wait intill the film is released to see this story put into motion. It really sucks that you know Ani is going to be evil and that he will kill everyone but when you see him progressing towards it you hope it wont happen even though you nkow he will :( .

Yes, I am homosexual because I wrote this. Grow up.
Anyway, despite my corp mates jovial nature, I honestly do not sit around and mediate on the meaning of the Force. I simply enjoy a good read and this book was most certianly that. -
