Edited by: Waut on 06/04/2005 11:22:14 Ion bolt cannon: - bonus vs shields - when the shield is down, it stays disabled for a short period - does not do any damage vs hull/armor once the shield is down but does affect the target ship by lowering some stats (like lower fire rate, low cap recharge rate, slight cap drain, slower targetting, lower speed,...)
Cutting laser - negative bonus vs shields (-50%) - when shields are down, 90% to 75% of the damage goes to the armor while 10% to 25% goes directly to the hull
Graviton beam - Ignores shields. Target ship shields do not get drained - Damage goes directly to armor and after that hull. - relatively low damage and/or range (so its not too uber)
Stuff like damage/range/... is offcourse open for debate for getting a good balance. Its more about the concept of each weapon

We already have weapons that do good shield damage, but poor armour damage, in the form of lasers and specific missile types.
We already have weapons that do good armour damage, but poor shield damage, in the form of projectile weapons (granted this can be changed with ammo) and specific missiles types.
Damage already sometimes penitrates through shields/armour when they are low.
You cannot have a weapon that compleatly ignores either shield or armour, as some races are dedicated shield/armour defenders.
So 2/3 of your suggestion is good, but already in game . Play the game for a bit longer, and give it another go though I have supped the milk of human kindness, and discovered i am lactose intolerant |

You find that uber? How about the "erasor beam". In just one hit, targetted ship, pod and account get completely erased from the database. Also, an angry mob will be sent at the player home
